Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Tubed 1, the pricing alone may serve as a caution to "beware".But I wonder if you have any other reason to post your warning, such as bad business dealings?
Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously?
Dover,"with the DJ market in mind". I trust you were referring to radio station DJs, which were a market for early Technics DD tables, not dance club scratch/mobil DJs. I've read many false assertions the Technics SL-1200s were designed for dance ...
Michael Fremer's record cleaning process....
Have we gotten off-topic . . . (deep inhale) , . . or what?
Maintenance for arms with detachable headshells
Thanks Halcro. But doesn't WD-40 leave behind a film? Obviously it helped in your situation but I'd be more inclined to use an electronic switch cleaner. So I guess I'm with Swampwalker on this.
Infinity Irs Beta
Paul McGowan (PS Audio) owns both IRS Vs and Betas. He is friends with Arnie Nudell and has done extensive updates to his Vs. He has not mentioned working on his Betas. From Paul's website here is an interview with Nudell where he mentions his own...
Parasound JC-1 variations
Coli, $300-400 based on what? In my experience Parasound is outstanding with warranty service. We don't know if Dbphd's amps are covered or not so it seems premature to make statements about costs. But none of us knows the circumstances so this sho...
Parasound JC-1 variations
I found my JC-1s sounded best in high bias so I've used that for critical listening and low bias for background music. Even when I owned Duntech Princess speakers with very complex (read - not an easy load) crossovers they would get quite warm but...
Parasound JC-1 variations
Have you thought about contacting Parasound with your concerns? I've found their customer service to be top notch and Richard responds quickly.
Micro Seiki Parts-Headshells in particular
Famoej, don't you mean a high mass arm? Those Denon cartridges are low compliance so higher mass arms should be considered for best match.
Turntable placement
Effischer, turntables/arms/cartridges are subject to two types of vibrational energy - structural and airborne.WHAT we place our tables on affects the structural element, WHERE we place them if affected by the airborne. My comment above only attem...
Turntable placement
Great advice Viridian. I did that very thing several years ago which resulted in moving my TT from the right-hand corner of a 60" shelf within a wall alcove, toward the left corner which then placed the arm arc/cartridge more toward the mid-point ...
Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously?
Regarding additional platter weight affecting performance, there was discussion of this in the past and I remember at least Lew and I participated in that. The manual for my SP-10 Mk2A states its performance has "stable load characteristics up to 1...
Any Herron VTPH-2 Phono Stage Owners out there?
Lew, if you do experiment with "infinite" loading for other MCs, may I suggest you begin a new thread if you write up your results? I expect there will be enough interest to warrant a new heading of its own. Thanks
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Hi Dover, you make many good points. My comment to Lew was indeed a "generalization" and was intended as such. Like you, and I'm sure many others here, I've found both good and bad among MM/MI as well as MC models over the years. I only mentioned t...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Lew, one possible exception regarding what "specs" tell us. Most MC cartridge specs show a rising high end, often above 15K. Some perceive that as added detail, others as objectionable brightness.I believe that may be a basic difference between th...
