Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously?
Lew, thanks for correcting my faulty recollection of work on your SP-10 Mk 2.  I suspect my memory may contain some electrolytics which have faded and lost their value. ;^)Anyway, I should go ahead with the 'lytic replacements in my Technics since...
Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously?
PBNaudio,I believe you mentioned Peter that among the DD tables you've restored your list included a SP-10 Mk2.  I have one which has been calibrated and seems to be functioning fine, but I'm pushing my luck by not yet having replaced all the elec...

chakster, with apologies to the OP for this sidetrack I will offer arm suggestions specifically for high compliance cartridges as all were introduced during their peak popularity (no particular order).-  Infinity/ADC-  Mayware Formula IV or others...

chakster, twice now you've used the term "budged".  First time I thought that was a typo and you intended to say budget.  That is why I suggested Jelco.  And BTW, without checking compliance numbers I did use a couple of Grados and possibly a Shur...
Searching for the ideal vintage bookshelf speakers.
unclechoppy, a few thoughts based upon some decades of experience.First, the term "bookshelf speaker" has an unfortunate evolution.  It is true it connotes speakers of a size and weight that could fit and be supported by a bookshelf.  But very few...

chakster, would you consider a moderately priced new arm of good quality?  If so I might suggest one of the Jelco models. Also there are used versions made by Jelco for other brands, such as Audioquest, Sumiko Premier, and Ortofon.  I owned a Premi...

fleib, for you, and anyone else considering a Dennesen/Feickert type device, allow me to be more precise. Sometimes my mind works faster than my fingers can type! ;^)My only issue in using an alignment device such as the Dennesen is the need to ac...

fleib, because of another comment I just reread your 3-4-2016 post.  I may have misunderstood something with my first reading. You mentioned a Dennesen accessory to locate the arm mounting hole.  I thought that was in response to my comment on loca...

fleib, thanks for the helpful response. In fact I have used my Dennesen for the reverse process, to draw the arc to identify location for mounting an arm.I also use a small Tensor light and hand held magnifier with the Dennesen when doing an alignm...

fleib, when you say "fancy Dennesen tonearm locator, just as all these alignment grid/pivot pointer protractors are based on the SoundTractor, only they're better." do you mean the others are more accurate than the Dennesen?  Or easier to use?  So...
Question for you Denon DL-103 folks
lewm and smc, the M20FL Super was one of the MMs touted in Raul's very long post on MM cartridges, a few years ago when Raul was still held in high esteem by most Audiogon readers. ;^)  Actually, I don't remember now if Raul was the one making fav...
Automatic Tables
stan, additional references -I believe the Technics SL-1300s and 1600s series were fully automatic tables.  They will be compatible with a wider range of cartridges than the SL-7 or 10 or the Duals.  And I suspect they may accept some of the upgra...

Dover, you said "most enthusiasts of the EPA100 replace the ruby bearings with silicone nitride or ceramic balls".I found that very interesting since it is the first time I've seen it stated.  I have an EPA 100 so I read anything I find mentioning...
Automatic Tables
Hi stan,Sorry to learn of your issues but glad for the recoveries you have made.We are of a similar age so my suggestions should be familiar to you.  The choice could come down to the cartridge you'd prefer to use.  I'm listing only fully automati...
Thoughts on replacing caps in 30 year old speakers
From my reading it is the electrolytic caps which deteriorate with time and change value.  If your crossover contains any of those they will be the candidates for replacement."Upgrading" any other caps will more likely be a matter of taste.  As rc...
