Another suggestion for a stand alone speaker is Oppo Sonica at $299.  It has an aux input and you could use your Dot with it.

Far Cheaper than a $3000 Music Server
I just built a new music server based on an Intel NUC.  I wanted to take advantage of the speed and size of an  M.2 NVMe drive.  I wanted to go passive, but couldn't find a machine that supported M.2 in my price range.  Later I might pick up an ai...

Auralic Aries Mini vs Bluesound Node ll vs Sonos
Something to keep in mind with Sonos: you're limited to CD quality audio.  Also, make sure to turn of compression under advanced settings.  If you don't, Sonos will compress your CD quality audio while streaming it from your source.

Look at the schematic; it uses some real technical terms such as "tape holder thingy" and "green soloniod nodule".  Oh, and the tapes are made of lead.  Yes, just want you want laying around the house for the little ones to chew on.

Playing high definition audio on legacy BOSE Lifestyle product
Why not get something like a Paradigm Link, that supports 24/192, to plug into one of the analog aux inputs.  On the cheap, you can pick up a Google Chromecast Audio for $35 that supports 24.96.  Again, you have to plug it into an analog input.The...

Have you considered going with a WiFi device like a Sonos Play5, Def Tech W9, Paradigm PW800, etc.  Or, you could get a Sonos:Connect or Def Tech W-Adapt and connect it to your existing stereo system.  This would allow you to play the music on you...
Anyone using "Small Green Computer" devices?
Do you mean small computers like the Intel NUC?  Or, do you mean "green" network switches that go into low power mode when no activity is present?
