SACD or not
Once I figured out how to rip SACDs to DSF files a few months ago, I started to buy them. Mostly 60's and 70's Rock. I have almost 60 SACDs now. The only SACDs I buy are ones that are supposed to have the best masterings and sound the best of all ...
A good taste of DSD--what is your experience?
I have a bunch of SACDs that I have ripped to DSF files and play them via Roon/HQPlayer to my DirectStream DAC which supports up to DSD128.Regardless of format or resolution, the mastering is the single most important element to getting great soun...

KT88 tube amp
@dspringham @wig I just ordered a quad of Shuguang WEKT88 tubes for my amp. My original quad of Shuguang KT88-Z tubes have a lot of hours on them and I just lost one. I still have a quad of Shuguang KT88-T tubes and they are in the amp now. What do...
CD"S
I have a bunch of CDs, some SACDs, and no vinyl. I have no desire to pop CDs or SACDs into a player and play them. I don't even own a CD or SCAD player and don't plan to waste my money on them. Instead, I rip the CDs and SACDs and load them onto m...
Is there such a thing??-- Tube Preamp Question
The 7308’s are the  Cadillac of the 6DJ8‘s  tubes  and therefore are priced  accordingly.  They don’t last as long as the 6922’s but will sound the best of all the  6DJ8 line.Where this incorrect information coming from? Brent Jesse??? If you actu...
Use this song if you are doing an A/B with Preamps
I have the original 1986 West German DJM Records CD of Elton John's self-titled album with "Sixty Years On" on it. I have it ripped to FLAC and play it via Roon on my system and it sounds sublime!Of course I have a Don Sachs Model 2 tube line stag...
KT88 tube amp
I have settled on the Shuguang KT88-T tubes in my KT88 tube amp (Don Sachs ~74 watts). I also like the Shuguang Treasure KT88-Z tubes but they are a bit muddled on the top end compared to the -T tubes. These are noticeably better than any PSVANE o...

I keep forgetting that George does not like Schiit Audio...and that he thinks he knows EVERYTHING!

@georgehifi Except you left off the header text before the text you provided:"Aegir the First: The Original Idea"Guess what, the original idea didn't work out. Also, the output stage is not the same basic circuit topology as Vidar. The transformer...

@celander  It appears @georgehifi would rather be right than try to understand how Aegir is not like Vidar and is more like the Lyr 3. No, not in size or components uses...but in design. The Head-Fi post you link to describes it well.By the way, I...

George,Just because Aegir looks like Vidar does not mean it is like Vidar. Any Class A-like design that fits in the same box as a Class AB design is going to have lower power and higher bias. There are no surprises there. Just like there are no su...
***Is It Me Or Have Todays Modern Tubes Gotten REALLY REALLY Good***
For 6SN7 tubes for my preamp and amp, I am really quite happy with the Shuguang Treasure CV181-Z and CV181-T tubes. They might not be quite as good as the very best NOS war time tubes, but they are more consistent, less expensive, and easier to ge...

Bet this is the Vidar with lower rail volts and higher Class-A bias, maybe that why there's no internal shots of it, like the Vidar has???No, this is a whole different design. It’s more like the Lyr 3 than Vidar.
