PASSIVE Preamp and LIFELESSNESS? I have used the GFP-750 and found it to be very sensitive to the combination of source, amp and cables many combinations did sound too dry. Afer a lot of testing with highend tube preamps and the GFP-750, I now use a shunt to ground stepped attenu...
Power Conditioners I leave my two PS audio units on all the time
TacT Room Correction System processors I own the Sigtech and have hade the Tact unit in my room. I the room response (impluse and MLSSA) independently measured by and audio engineer. The Sigtech was far smoother. It also sounded better. I thing the Tact would be best for five channel H...
Best amp for Dunlavy V My SC-V' are on the original bases on a hardwood floor, but I did special bracing underneath them to stiffen the floor, not for weight. I did impulse measurements before and after the bracing and the bass tightened up quite a bit. Given both the w...
Bright Star Audio Isolation Devices I use them along with Zoethecus stands. The work well, however I prefer home made vibration dampers made of small lead shot in rectangular bags. I've played around with various vibration control strategies incluing special floor bracing. In my opi...

Best amp for Dunlavy V The Melos was custom built on the output to match the impedance of the Dunlavy's. Also this unit was their new design including a revised power supply that gave it a Joule capacity equal to the ARC 600. These are both critical for solid bass and p...
BI-AMPING I used a Bryston 10b to biamp my Dunlavy SC-V. Bryston 7bst on the bottom ARC VT-200 on the top. The 10b added too much harshness. I liked the 7bst alone better. I ultimately went to high powered tube monoblocks. Just my experience.
Best amp for Dunlavy V I am a tube kind of guy, my wife is a tube kind of gal and we own SC-V's. My wife and I primarily listen to large scale late romantic music, art techno, and organ music. We love the Dunlavy's. But to get the most out of them you need a big room, b...
Matching pre amp tubes? It is more important to understand the noise characteristics of the tubes. There is noticable differences both in noise and sonic characteristics of various preamp tubes.
NHT SuperOne owners: amp suggestions? I also own an NAD 317 at my workplace office. I personaly prefer the Jolida 502B to the NAD 317 but the NAD is one great bargain is SS integrated. The Jolida is more liquid which you might prefer for jazz. I have a Jolida 202 on the way to replace...
Anyone with Spectral Experience? I compared the high end Spectral 360 monoblocks to ARC CJ and Melos monoblocks as well as my old Theshold SA/1. I found them harsh and bright with Dunlavy SC-V's. I listen to a lot of classical music live and recorded and did not think that these ...
Optical or Coax digital Coax is better except (a) as pointed out above very long runs and (b) if the digital source has rf contamination or grounding problems as can be the case with Digital Satillite music. I subscribe to the 100+ channel DMX service and actuallly conve...
Tubes & Audio Research Corp. I recently dealt with Kevin looking for NOS tubes for my Melos monoblocks. Kevin took the time to explain alternatives. The tubes that I got from him made a significant improvement to my amps performance. I would highly recommend him.
Balanced vs unbalanced interconnects I suggest you give the mfg a call, ask to speak with the engineers and grill them on the circuit. |
