Special digital cable needed?
There are no guarantees. A digital-specific cable could sound better -- or worse. If you have achieved a good result with what you have, I'd leave well-enough alone. Some analog cables I've tried as digital cables have sounded better than digital-s...
Moving to Tucson, AZ
I agree with Hifidreams -- Tucson is a desert, in more ways than one. There are no worthwhile audio shops and very few audiophiles. I once tried to start an audio club in Tucson, but there was not enough interest. Phoenix has some decent audio sho...
Thoughts/experiences with VMPS
I believe the RM30 is the best performing speaker at anywhere near its price; and I've owned many great speakers. My full review of the RM30 detailing my experience is available this month at www.stereotimes.comAnd yes, I did purchase the speakers ...
Freezer Cryoed Cables...
On the other side of the coin, what about cryoed cables/outlets/tubes that are shipped to hot climate areas in the heat of the summer. Does the molecular structure of the metal conductors revert back to their pre-cryo state? Do folks pay extra for...
Please help: Do I need a preamp?
I agree with Reubent, using a preamp is not always an asset. In fact, sometimes it is a downgrade. Jjmali, the poster is not using a passive preamp. The preamp in the ML 39 is based on the ML 380 active preamp. Wes Phillips (who's opinions I respe...
Please help: Do I need a preamp?
Norbert, I don't think it's an impedance mismatch because I believe the BAT's input impedance is on the high side and I'm sure the ML's output impedance is low enough not to be a problem.I don't believe that using a tube CD player or preamp will s...
I've finally lost it
Well Viggen,You are speaking from the outside looking in -- and I am speaking as someone who has started with lower priced turntables (had many different models and combinations) and has worked his way up to pricier models... I know what you get a...
I've finally lost it
If the whole thing seems so "stupid" then why bother???Besides, if you buy the $4000 (your approximation) turntable system you'll have to upgrade your speakers and some other components to actually hear all the performance you'd be paying for.Inst...
Krell KAV 250 cd player owner, help
Have you tried new batteries?
10,000 watt integrated amp/generator suggestions
A powerplant run by a windmill might do the trick... Or possibly a battery-powered unit or something you can run off your car (you might want to elevate the vehicle a few more feet above sea level...).I see you still have your sense of humor -- ha...
XLR? 1/4 trs? Help
It looks like the logical choice is XLR terminations at both ends (male and female pairs), since, that way you won't have to bother with going through TRS to RCA adapters. But if you don't have any balanced XLR cables you can always go to RadioSha...
3 Audio Deities at 6moons
Albert, your points are well-taken and I agree with you. In retrospect I probably took the "deity" thing a bit too literally. It is refreshing to see a behind-the-scenes type of article that is very well done. I appreciate your comments.
3 Audio Deities at 6moons
Uuuuuuh, I don't know what to make of all this mutual gushing... I guess the qualifications for godhood have slackened just a tad over the years...Here we have three great guys who pay attention to detail. If they gave all needy audiophiles their ...
Current Trends In Home Audio
Agreed. I moved to Tucson a year ago and this place has virtually zero audiophile presence. NJ was much better with regard to the number of audiophiles but became too crowded, overtaxed, and has too much bad weather for me to tolerate any longer.
Vintage Advents too big for small room?
I think the Triangle and the Epos models you mentioned may be a good bet... Also, I just saw a pair of Signet SL-260 speakers on A-gon for a good price, and they could be a very good choice as well.
