New Sade Album I own some of the early Sade LPs and they sound quite good. One of my friends recently brought over the Jill Scott CD that Martice mentioned and the sound was great: clean, nice dynamic contrasts and solid, punchy lower bass. In fact, now that I'm...
Talon Khorus Speakers I have heard the Talon Khorus and though they do a few things well, they ultimately failed to convince me that I was hearing real music and instruments. If you want more details, e-mail me privately and I'll fill you in. So they are not on my top-...
Talon Khorus Speakers Acuujim - I'd be curious to know which speakers made your top-5 list, if you don't mind saying. Any comments you'd care to offer on the individual contenders would be welcome.
1 million dollar speaker made by Kharma Heck, the real "Grand Enigma" is the question of why these speakers cost a million bucks. I believe they are very appropriately named!
Ok, some of you suggested Magnepan 1.6QR I have a Sonogy Black Knight amp (SS, 175Wpc) that works great driving a set of Maggie 1.4s. I've heard the Black Knight drive 1.6s and it sounded excellent as well. The bass was great, and the sound was smooth and detailed.
Male audiophile seeking Female audiophil WOW, ZenLady, I'm very impressed with your "equipment," and I'd like to learn more about it--do you have any pics?
Analog vs Digital Well, there is no shortage of bad sounding and even amusical digital gear to be sure, but by the same token, there is some really great sounding digital starting to appear and the gap has closed substantially. Sometimes I play records and get surp...
Analog vs Digital I use a VPI Aries, JMW arm, and ClearAudio Gamma MC cartridge, which is more expensive than my digital gear and sounds quite good. Before that I was using a Townshend Audio Mk-III Rock with a Transfiguration cartridge. My digital is the Bel Canto ...
considering maggie 1.6's Yo Wino, They can play reasonably loud on their own and have decent energy in the midbass. If you want full-range wallop in the lowest octaves simply add a good subwoofer and rock on. :)
Top Ten Speakers of All Time? I'll second the nomination of the Acoustat 2+2s. I sold mine when I moved to a room with a lower ceiling, but liked them very much. My current fave is the InnerSound Eros electrostatic hybrid. It's very coherent and focused, plays LOUD and kicks s...
speaker degradation question Add a good subwoofer for HT if you like your main speakers. The salesman is doing what all salesmen try to do...make you discontent with what you have in hopes that you'll buy the latest "hot" item. It's not like he doesn't profit when you fall fo...
Beating the Tube Rush Going to a less sensitive speakers, or an amplifier with lower input sensitivity will also decrease the apparent tube noise--as will finding very low-noise tubes. Also, there are a few tube preamps on the market that are almost as quiet as solid s...
Talon Audio Khorus - WOW!!! Hi Mike, I guess I must be one of the 2 people that have been so bold as to dare to offer my opinion that the Khorus speakers have their flaws just as all speakers do. This is by no means "bad-mouthing" or "slanderous," language. This is merely my...
Krell - Martin Logan power question. Electrostatic speakers like lots of voltage as opposed to current, so high-powered tube amps are a good choice. I also got great results driving my stats with the InnerSound ESL amp, which is specifically designed to drive hard-to-drive ESLs and p...
Rouge M120 With 99 or 66 Preamp Oh, Sedond, aren't you the guy who sold the 99 because of an alleged "impedance mismatch". I know that sound of the Rogue 99 is greatly improved (especially bass tightness)by using it with different feet, specifically #4 BDR cones. Also, according... |
