What were your favorite gear additions in 2024? Wow, lots of nice new gear - congrats! Much to my chagrin, I've had nearly no time for audiophilia this year. But, recently managed to pick up a mint Sutherland 20/20 phono pre to replace my Phonomena II. So far, with limited listening time no...
2025 Audio System Wish List Time! @thecarpathian thanks for the tip. I too hope to have time to explore at Axpona this year. Missed last year’s show. Darn work! ;-)
2025 Audio System Wish List Time! I've been trying to head towards a lower powered tube system but finding high sensitivity speakers I like without breaking the bank has been tough. So, some used high sensitivity speaks and el34/84 or 6550 amplification would be nice. Perhaps a b...
Entry Level Tube Integrated Amps Sounds like what you are looking for is definitely a tube setup. With those speaker choices you are in good shape. Lots of good info provided already. I will chime in with my two tube experiences. I had a Jolida 502 brc (entry-level for sure) ...
Audio stores near Bloomington/Normal Illinois? Thanks
How do you decide what to listen to? Same old stuff? @harpo75 Sounds like you and I have similar tastes in music. I use to be a metal head but it’s been mostly prog rock, fusion, and jazz for the last 5 or so years. There are some great resources on YouTube like the Prog report, Sea of Tranquilit...
Help me identify an amp Sorry for your loss. But at least you have his gear as a memento. I don't think my pops has anything to leave behind. He was a car guy but got rid of everything some time ago. Best of luck!
Phono stage for second system Just picked up a used Sutherland 20/20 and so far so good. Very smooth and dead quiet. Regular component width and depth size but only 2" high. Excellent build quality IMO.
Weak link I know it's been said over and over but I'll pile on for room treatments if possible. Best bang for the buck IMO. Just putting panels at the first reflection points is pretty much a game changer. At least it was for me. Very cost effective DIY...
Do speakers need to be re-broken in? Wouldn’t surprise me. Hell, my Maggie LRS sound better after an hour of playing if I don’t use them for a few days. Could be just my ears but I have noticed this numerous times.
Friends hi-fi system not very good, what do you do or say? Why do I get the feeling that the OP would think everybody’s system sounds bad except theirs?
Phono stage comparisons Thanks all for the thoughtful responses. I went ahead with the Sutherland. Hopefully will pick it up tonight and get it set up soon. The Phonomena 2 is the best I’ve had out of several budget phono stages. I can see the chinook or a different tub...
Phono stage comparisons Thanks for the replies. Rega P6 with MM Exact cart. I do enjoy tube gear so certainly not ruling the Chinook out. I don't have an uber detailed system and prefer it that way. But yes, noise floor can be a problem. As of now, the Stellar is o...
Happy Friday gents @winoguy Why it's Bourbon of course! Never much cared for rye. Trader Joe's $15.99 is not bad at all. (Trying to save a few bucks these days.) @hilde45 Very funny blast from the past, thanks!
if you had this system, what would you do to make it sound the best you can A Mac bot? lol |
