Ideas for Pre/Power $9000? I'd go with a new MA5300 for about $6K, and save the rest for a new set of speakers. An amp of this caliber would deserve speakers at least in the $2-3K range.
Where is best place to sell vintage WiFi? Audiogon is great, and well worth the modest cost. You tend to get more qualified reponses. It's definitely more suited to higher end audio than to mainstream level gear. I've had some success with Marketplace, but the noise level is high. P...
Let me end the Premp/Amplifier sound debate ... Yes indeed. Your experiences are your own. Couple of things here, having experienced a very large number of amplifiers over the past 40 years or so. Specs not only give no indication as to one amp sounding better than the other, the amps with ...
Can we finally put Reel to Reel out of its misery? Put it to rest people. @vinny55 Um.... no. I was a Nak dealer back in the day, and have owned multiple decks, including the Dragon. Yes, they are glorious. Vastly better than most cassette decks. And yes, parts are a problem. But no, they do not equal a Revox with a ...
How do you know when tubes are done? I’ve worked on tube gear for years, and judging by physical signs is not reliable. Especially with power tubes. Running a power or integrated amps on weak output or driver tubes risks damage to the amp. Amps with bias adjustments should be checked...
Tube Amps Watts vs SS amp As others have said, tube amps provide a more usable power band than most solid state amps. I've been in audio for over 40 years, and have listened to countless amps, and of this I have no doubt. Another point on most tube amps is that the outpu...
Douk Audio. Any experience with any of their products? Ok, this is a different model than I thought you were talking about. This is clearly an active preamp, and does indeed have vacuum tubes. And yes, it is not passive. They would do well to get someone with stronger language skills to write these...
Douk Audio. Any experience with any of their products? The cylinders you see are the transformers. There are no tubes.
Douk Audio. Any experience with any of their products? It's passive since it uses transformers, rather than active electronics. This one is pretty cheap for what it is. The alternative is an active MC head amp. These can get quite expensive.
Is anyone still using kimber 4pr? I've still use Kimber 4PR to this day on my office system. 4VS on the main system. I still feel that Kimber is one of the most transparent speaker cables, especially for the money.
What drugs do you use to enhance your listening experience? Really appreciate some very funny posts. Some others take this just too seriously. Take a deep breath. I often listen just as I am. Maybe a cup of coffee or tea. Pot on the other hand, is an amplifier on its own. With a beer or two, it makes for a...
Douk Audio. Any experience with any of their products? I found some images of the Dartzeel amp. Looks amazing, but I don't think there is any connection with the audio kits and components sold on ebay under the Douk name.
Viva, no longer a fan I have no experience with Viva at all. So, not necessarily a comment on them specifically. I have however sold and serviced audio gear for nearly 40 years, and see this as a big warning sign. I personally would not support a product from a comp...
Speakers in the 5-6K$ region & their components I have owned, serviced and sold many pairs of speakers over the years. I can tell you without a doubt that measuring a speaker by the total cost of the drivers is a mistake. I would use some specific examples, but I don’t want to step on any toes....
When will we ever hear turntables demoed fairly? Having worked a time in audio retail, this is just not practical. This is such a costly business to operate. Unboxing and reducing the value of even more components, and the additional work of actually switching arms out just makes it an even lo... |
