"Picking On" tribute albums
I second Shadorne, "Paint it Blue" is a very enjoyable disc with memorable performances.
Vinyl Find of the Week?
In local stores, I just found a real nice, clean copy of Dead Can Dance's "Spleen and Ideal" for $5, a sealed Italian pressing on the Deutsche Grammophon label of Bohm/Schubert Symphonies 5 & 9 for $2.99, and a clean & quiet Columbia two-e...
More CD Player selection woes
Given that you want your cd player to sound similar to your analog rig, I wonder if you'll be happy with a Cambridge. I've owned a couple higher end Grados and the Cambridge house sound is not at all like Grados warm and comfy sound. Given your pr...
More CD Player selection woes
I'd suggest you read a few reviews of the Marantz SA-11S1 or SA-11S2 and add those to the list of candidates. I find them to have a most pleasing sound that is easy on the ears in an analog-ish manner. Much more appealing to me than Cambridge's so...
Static removal with ion generators
Seems like technological overkill to me. A $25 Kinetronics anti-static brush does the same thing and works in less time with less fuss. Buy it from big photo supply houses like Adorama or B&H Photo.
Legal & Ethical Questions in the PC Audio Age
Excellent post Frank, thanks for the rant!
Lindsey Buckingham
Marty, I'd agree with you regarding sound quality. Can't say I found the bass lacking, just Lindsey's preference for upper mid-range exaggeration. Perhaps his hearing has been affected by too much exposure to high db concerts. BTW, if you get a ch...
Review: Running Springs Audio Haley AC filter
Nice review Jim, well done. You've got an enjoyable and entertaining way of writing. I've been curious about RSA products and your review was helpful.
What is the proper way to dispose of old tubes?
There is a small amount of barium or strontium oxide in many tubes. Barium oxide is quite hydroscopic and the compound does not last long in the environment (according to info on the Eco-usa.net website.) So if you were to inhale or eat newly open...
Why no Room Tuning Questions?
Go to Audiocircle.com, then go "Circles," then "Special Interest," then "The Acoustics Circle." There are 19 pages of forum threads on room acoustics to peruse there.
Lindsey Buckingham
Marty, I this disc up yesterday and having listened to it twice now, I agree that this is a great release. I've always been a big fan of Lindsey's songwriting and guitar playing and this is some of his best work ever. He's really turned loose his ...
When Streaming, is 128kps good or not so good?
John, in the context of your nice system, 128kps is good enough for background listening and that's about it IMO. To my ears, it doesn't out and out stink, but it lacks all of the delicate nuances that make hi-end sound come alive. I listen to str...
Anyone using BillyBags for a TT stand?
Yep, I use a double wide Billy Bags Pro rack for all my gear, including turntable. Excellent quality workmanship. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for. However, the MDF shelving sounds like dullness incarnate under my Scout. Your mileage may va...
Integrated amplifier for Magneplanar SMGA
Well, as to why PS Audio, two reasons. First reason is nothing more than my personal tastes in sound. Second reason is that PS Audio amps are not bothered by the low impedance of Maggies, which is more than I can say for the Luxman, Adcom, and Bel...
The Most You Have Paid For Shipping
Most expensive shipping I pay is for the tea I buy from China! Shipping a kilo of the good stuff from Yunnan runs about $40 for registered airmail.
