have you tried replacing IC or speaker wire? You may be able to tweak your way to happiness. Also, a new PC on your amp can open it up and help with tonal balance.also fwiw I agree you probably are a tube guy...

old tubes sound boring and make you want to sleep, new tubes will sound vibrant and full of life.That amp should never sound bright, even with old tubesIMO of course...

I think the Green Mountian Audio Continuum speakers are easy to drive so the difference is not so apparent but I would try one setting for a few weeks (at least) and then try the other (if you have not done so already).sorry for my earlier post OP...
