Getting started w/ tube equipment
frankly I would start with tube friendly (high impedance easy to drive) speakers then look for the proper amp

I had one of their older integrated amps (A300 I think) and with Maggie 1.6 it sounded as if cymbals were four feet in diameter and way out in front, when I switched to a Plinius 8200 things went back to the proper perspective. The A300 was bright...

you may want to consider Speltz autoformers to raise the impedance of the speakers and tighten the bassagree with above, it would be difficult to find a worthy tube amp for $1500 (especially new)fwiw

Andyzregarding your situation, I wonder if the improvement in sound was due to new connections and not the proximity of the main to your house.maybe it is both...just a thought, thanks for posting.

AU24e Interconnects - but warmer
I did not care for the AU24 in my stereo either they had a thin quality. I second the Gabriel Gold, they have beautiful tone.ymmv of course...

really nice, sounds like it has a bit of a beatnik sound I have not heard her perform like that in her studio albums
