Tube Amplifier for Maggies I vote no, it will not work. I had Rogue Magnum 120 power amps and could get moderate levels in my 13 x 22 x 8 room, not much more volume than that and I thought it lacked dynamics.
Remote Preamp $1000 Used Quad 99 is very neutral and musical and you will be in remote heaven as just about every pre amp function is on it.
Warmest solid-state integrated for under $2k Plinius 8200 MKIIvery nice
So, again, a question concerning amps. Speaking only for myself,I like short questions, to the point and concise. I am not saying anything about you but a long (2 paragraphs) question will discourage me usually and so I will not reply unless it is of personal interest to me.signed:self...
Vandies or Maggies? I compared Vandy 2C signature with Maggie 1.6 on the same system and bought the Maggies. Clearly less colored and more open, though I liked the Vandy it just sounded like a box in comparison.
Audio Note Soro from 97, still current? I just got my Soro SE about 3 hours ago and even though it has old tubes I can say this amp is something special. It is very neutral and rich at the same time and, (like the JMR Trentes) I am constantly reminded of real people in the room playing ...
Will improperly biased amp and preamp affect sound I think if bias is too high you will burn up the tubes quicker than normal but, from what I remember, it should sound better than if it is biased too low in which it will sound boring and not involving.
Audio Note Soro from 97, still current? BTW guys, do any of you use something under your Soro to control resonences? All I have is Vibrapods and may be open to buying cones. Also I do have a VenHaus PC to use and hope it works.thanks...Phil
Audio Note Soro from 97, still current? JoeThank you very much for the info. I have a Grado Sonata (4.5mv) and look forward to a glorious midrange sound and hopefully not too much bass which I had with my old set-up which was a Plinius SA100 MKIII and Quad 99 pre. I should have known I ...
Audio Note Soro from 97, still current? I too have heard recently that the Oto may have better sound than the Soro but I did need the extra watts as my speakers are 88db effecient. The Oto is reportedly cleaner with less grundge. I think the Soro will be so good I do not care at this po...
Audio Note Soro from 97, still current? Thank you Carl, I will do so.Are you familiar with the Soro?If so what are your impressions?thanks,Phil
Kimber 8tc vs. audioquest cv6 with dbs I like Kimber 8TC very much but it is a little weak in the bass. By weak bass I mean less bass output, not the quality which was fine IMO. Real nice tone in the midrange though. Of course this was in a limited number of setups etc.I prefer Alpha C...
Rogue 88, Marsh A400S, or Audio Research VS110? I should clarify that I like to turn it up and try for realistic volumes which the Maggies will achieve but not with any of the tube amps mentioned.Phil
Rogue 88, Marsh A400S, or Audio Research VS110? triod and ultralinear is what I meant... I do admit that I too was not entirely smitten with the Rogue stuff. It is certainly very good (at least as good in the midrange as my Plinius SA100 MKIII) but for example, my Manley Stingray had better ton...
Rogue 88, Marsh A400S, or Audio Research VS110? BorissSorry for the delay, my power was out over the weekend due to inclimate weather.I thought the M88 drove my Maggies nicely in triode mode. I have never understood that people thought they had more power in tetrode, they just play louder (and ... |
