2 channel movie lstening;is it worth the sacrafice I agree. I'm perfectly happy using my 2 channel system for movies. I don't think I'll ever feel the need to switch to a multiple speaker system.
Why so many Merlin VSM's for sale?? I can't really add anything that wasn't mentioned above. The Merlins really are amazing speakers if you have (or are willing to find) matching amplification, good upstream components, good wire, and prefer a balanced, neutral presentation rather t...
compatability confusion for newbie, yamaha ca-1010 Yes, exactly. I had a powered sub that also acted as the crossover, so the signal went from amp...to sub...to speakers. You can also check on the active sub w/crossover option if the seperate amp & crossover gets too price for the passive sub.
compatability confusion for newbie, yamaha ca-1010 I don't know too much about these things, but you normally wouldn't need a switch for one pair of speakers...the amp reacts to the load. I think your amp is fine with the pair of Paradigms, but I don't think it's enough to power the passive sub al...
Which Tube Amp? Hi Kurt,Like Michael above, I had a Counterpoint SA100 completely rebuilt (Premium Gold version of the NP100) by Mike Elliott. It has two 6SN7 tubes that never need biasing and is 100wpc. The NP220 has twice as much power. If you want something th...
The Flaming Lips are Go Manifesto I recently picked up my first Mercury Rev album (Desserter's Songs) and I was amazed at how similar the last few Lips albums sound to it (it preceeded them). I realize that Dave Friedman (the producer of both) is a member of Mercury Rev, an obviou...
Please advise - volume-variable buzz in spkrs I actually didn't find it myself. I unhooked everything and slowly put pieces back together and narrowed it down to my DAC and/or amp. I sent my DAC in for a check-up first. It checked out fine, so I sent my amp in for a check-up and that's when t...
Denon 2900 + DAC or 5900? I'm with Aaron...your money would be better spend on mods, rather than a DAC. A well modded machine would improve all formats, not just Redbook. You'd also get more for your money because you won't be paying formore connectors, wire, a new case, etc.
Which CD-R best for Audio? All Mitsui (gold and silver)have their own chemical dye that is different from all other CDRs. All other CDRs use the same chemical dye (including the black ones). Good CDRs are made in good factories. Do a web search and you will find info on whi...
Please advise - volume-variable buzz in spkrs I doubt this is your situation, but I was using my amp and DAC with a SS pre and it was dead silent. Switched to a tube pre and a similar noise appeared. Tried everything to no avail. Eventually found out that a connection inside of my amp was bad...
Which CD-R best for Audio? Both of the above are good. I've used Mitsui. The last batch I bought were labelled with a different name (they were recently purchased, but they use the same plants and technology).
no-budget preamp? In general, a low cost preamp with all of the features that you're seeking will not sound too good. You will probably need to compromise on the remote at minimum, and maybe some inputs, if you want the best sound for a low cost.
48 kHz Jitter Box? I believe the DIP handles anything UP TO 96khz.
Comments of recommendations on Xmas music The Blind Boys of Alabama just released an Xmas CD.
Why so many Sony Scd-1 for sale? Hey Jwmazur...if it was so well designed, why was there any need to have it hot-rodded? :-)There is no doubt in my mind that there will be many well-designed, solid players to enter the market in the future. As a matter of fact, aren't there sever... |
