Anyone had experience with the NAD PP Phono Pream
I'd ask for opinions on a unit within a certain price range and see what suggestions you get. I am sure there are probably better units out there than the NAD for the same price.
Early MONO Beatles albums
Mono versions of the first four albums (British version) are readily available in all formats. Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Peppers, Magical Mystery Tour, and The White Album get very pricey if they're in ideal mint/near mint condition. There were ...
sound of jitter
I don't really think it's something you hear, but it is something you ntoice when it's gone. I don't think usually jitter adds sound. I think of it more as something that doesn't allow the information to be passed correctly...it corrupts the data....
Different sound from inputs 1 and 2 on preamp
I've noticed it...on my Counterpoint SA-5000 the tape 1 input has one less switch in the path than the CD, tuner, etc. On other preamps I assumed it was because I used channel 1 often and burned it in, but didn't often use the others.
suggestions for high quality but inexpensive amps
Ric Schultz at EVS (www.tweakaudio.com) is working on that very thing right now...inexpensive, but great amps (mono blocks too). I'm not in the market for an amp, but if I were I'd definitely consider giving him a call. I highly doubt you'll find ...
sample rate conversion quality issues
Yeah, what Paul said. There are some people who think it's better to record at 44.1 (if that is the final destination) and skip the conversion. I haven't compared the two. You might want to try both and see if you hear a difference.
Anyone using an Apogee Mini-Dac?
Apogee is a highly respected brand and a recording industry standard for A/D and D/A conversion. They're not the only product out there, but their offerings should sound very good in their price range. I haven't heard many raves for the M-Audio Au...
ain't got no soul: bad covers of great soul songs
Michael Bolton's entire body of work.
Is Sennheiser 600/650 an overkill ?
If you want ultimate resolution you wouldn't be listening to MP3s. I'd go with Hepl's advice. The 600 / amp combo will just reveal flaws in the source. There are also good models from Grado, Beyer, etc.
The Flaming Lips are Go Manifesto
I think Zaireeka has been released (I've seen it new several times over the past few months and that hasn't happened for years), so no reason to kick yourself for not buying it.
Badfinger
Yeah, the hall just inducted Bob Seger ferchristsakes. I can't think of many people in rock less influential or important than Bob Seger.
Headphone amp as main amp?
David Berning makes one that is also able to be used as a small amp. The MicroZotl, I think?
Digital harshness or Clipping?
Danner could be right...it could be the mic preamp clipping (I notice it occasionally on vocal recordings...especially from the 50s and 60s...even once or twice on Norah Jones first album). It might also be the fault of the person who did the digi...
Contemporary Jazz recommendations?
I'd recommend checking out The Bad Plus. Their debut album is quite good and has been favorably reviewed. It sounds modern while still maintaining a traditional piano trio structure. Their originals are strong and melodic, and their cover of Nirva...
Quiet, cheap table: under $500 new or used....
You could find a Rega Planar 3 in that range.
