Mccormack DNA125 or Belles 150A Hot Rod
Zaikesman, thankyou for bringing this to my attention. It never occured to me at the time I made my post, although it should have. By the way, your review/thoughts on the 125 were very well written & clear. I did post a followup to the DNA 125...
Mccormack DNA125 or Belles 150A Hot Rod
Hi, Steve McCormack, I have the RLD-1 preamp and I want to install the phono card. How much is it? Can I do it myself?
Audiophile license plates
Mitch4t, how about"Tunes4U"
I'm Ready to go TUBE
Your interest and curiosity in trying tubes is a natural progression as it is for most audiophiles. On the positive side, tubes will definately allow you to hear even further into the musical landscape, fleshing out more details. But as one review...
Do I even need or want a preamp?
No, just get yourself two cans and a string. Seriously, a quality preamp can add, rather than subtract. Besides it is nice to have the ability to switch between components.
Mcintosh MC 162 powering a pair of Klipsch RF 83's
Marems, if your refering to the two bass ports, mine measure 4" inside diameter. Yes I love them as well. Their sensitivity & sound quality opens the doors to the use of a broader range of amps including set/tube. They have never been the weak...
Eastern Electric Mini Max vs AE-3 DJH preamps
I have owned the Eastern Electric Minimax preamp & one of the ss power amps that it sounded best on was the Odyssey Stratos. A superb combination!
Mcintosh MC 162 powering a pair of Klipsch RF 83's
Marems, you have excellent tastes. I too am using a pair of Klipsch CF-4s. Much gear has come & gone but the CF-4s have always remained. The MC162 sounds very good on them as do other quality Mac amps.
Help me put a system together for under $1k.
Definately go with a Sonographe SA-250, Stereophile class B amp. Can be had for around $550 used and sounds spectacular! Match it with relatively inexpensive Conrad Johnson preamp. Can't go wrong matching Conrad Johnson products, as they offer tre...
Tube or solid state amp or amps?
Jafox, thanks for the kind words. You are mostly correct, I can appreciate what you just said & that is your preference as it should be but I was focusing my attention on this thread which is about amps. Actually I built my system around my sp...
Tube or solid state amp or amps?
Mrtennis I agree with you that there are solid state amps that can be ear piercing when poorly matched but there are also warm sounding ss amps that can appreciate a tube front end without the nasties. With some experience one can make a call as t...
Tube or solid state amp or amps?
I like my tubes in the front end and prefer solid state amplfication. Some of these new tube amp designs sound more like good solid state but comes with the hassle of tube replacement.
Are ICEpower amps really that good?
I have to agree with Tvad, there is nothing warm sounding about the Nuforce amps. Eldartford, you are very fortunate to own Channel Island amps which have a linear power supply. I prefer a linear power supply in my digital amps as opposed to switc...
Love it, or Hate it ? (wood trim)
Gungei, at least you don't have to worry about a static discharge when you touch a wooden knob or plastic for that matter.
Love it, or Hate it ? (wood trim)
A cheap shot, wood trim went the way of the square wheel, completely outdated! Even worse are wooden knobs.
