Who is using passive preamps and why?
IG316B, SOUNDS VERY GOOD. I still would be intersted in hearing which power amp you have paired the Ultra with.
Who is using passive preamps and why?
I think I speak for everyone and appreciate the link to Jeffrey Jackson, very interesting concept. Somewhat unconventional, definately not the prettiest looking design but isn't that the kind of gear that usually sounds good!
Who is using passive preamps and why?
Ig316b, I live in Washington state which borders Canada but not sure how close we are. Yes I would love to give your Ultra a listen!
Who is using passive preamps and why?
Ig316b, I would agree with you about the TLC-1. I borrowed a CJ PF1 solid state preamp to see if this active preamp would actually sound better than the TLC-1. I gave it 24 hours of continous operation. It was a bit more dynamic but the TLC-1 soun...
Who is using passive preamps and why?
Herman, well put. I think another factor that hasn't been mentioned is the that highly efficient speakers could play an important role in getting sufficient gain from a system where a passive preamp is used.
Who is using passive preamps and why?
Herman, thankyou sir for correcting me and pointing out this subject has been debated to death. Realistically I think that most subjects that have been put forth in the forums have been repeated over & over again. However there are some new pr...
Who is using passive preamps and why?
TVAD, you have the ultimate preamp! The VRE-1 is very spendy but beautiful and one day I will own one even if I have to wait. I understand that all the years of Steve McCormack's culmative knowledge has gone into the VRE-1. Even his earlier model ...
Who is using passive preamps and why?
Violin, could you use a sub with a passive to deliver the needed deep bass or would that defeat the main purpose for using a passive to begin with? I noticed some integrated amps, both tube and solid state use a passive pre, seems like it could ta...
What is meant by a "fast" pre amp
Thomastrouble, I too agree with you that Almarg post was both intelligently written & clear. He most definately is an asset to this audio community. I'm more in your camp and will leave the technical description to folks like him.The Naim CD i...
What is meant by a "fast" pre amp
Thomastrouble, you knew my last post in reference to fast was tongue & cheek and was written to be amusing, not to be taken seriously. Right?
What is meant by a "fast" pre amp
I pride myself on owning a very fast sounding system. Just the other day I was listening to a track on one of my favorite CDs, as soon as the song started, it was over. C'mon folks that is very fast, left me alot of time to do other things. This i...
What is meant by a "fast" pre amp
Pace, rythym, & drive equals fast.
Quality, Affordable, Preamps?
I would have to second the suggestion to buy the Rogue 99 Magnum preamp and it should be understood that this preamp is not difficult to match up to most any solid state power amp. The Dared SL 2000 is another good recommendation but keep in mind ...
Power cord on audio innovations l2 pre amp
Try a used PS Audio power cord here on Audiogon like the Mini-lab. They go for around $60.00 to $80.00 used and make an incredible improvement on most gear they are connected to. I also think that Signal Cable is a worthy consideration as I have s...
Tubes vs. solid state.
Cooljazzcat, if I think solid state is better, is just a matter of opinion, certainly not attempt to critizise. I did mention that I like both ss and tube. Keep in mind my music tastes vary from softer music to hard rock. My current preamp is tube...
