Best speakers for near-field listening?
I would not hesitate to stick with the Meadowlarks (kestrels or shearwaters) and I think the Proac Studio 100 is an excellent recommendation (a colored but beautiful sounding speaker that you could sit right next to if you wanted. The key to enjoy...
My ProAc R2.5's too big, need alternativ
I agree with the above posts. Keep the 2.5's. I own Shearwaters with the same driver and equal propensity to go low. As long as you can kep them separated and get them away from the wall the sound should be top notch.
CD Copies...why do they sound worse?
I'm sorry I arrived at this thread late. I will share my exprience. I have owned a Marantz CDR620 for about eight months now. Initally the source was a Wadia 850 and is currently (and will be for a long time a RA CD50) digital IC is from LAT inter...
Recommend CD Player with Volume Control
Carl, my comments were meant to be wholly supportive, upon reading my post this morning I can see easily how they were interpreted in another way. You are right again about disagreeing with you so often, this morning I was stuck behind a woman on ...
Recommend CD Player with Volume Control
in Carl's defense he opened his comments with a three word statement and then asked someone to expand on their position (very reasonably I might add if you read closely). Since that time comments and suggestions specific to HIM have been coming fr...
Recommend CD Player with Volume Control
From smeone who has owned Wadia I would tell you hands down get yourself a CD50 (I imagine the CD55 is also an excellent performer but cannot comment). I have owned one for two months and have probably spent 2K on new and used CD's in that time. I...
Music Reference RM9 vs RM9 MKII
I currently own the successor to the rm9 the rm200 and I can tell you that it is outstanding. I run it with EI KT90's and the sound is top notch and untouchable for 2k used. This amp is a hybrid design with bipolars in the input (unlike the rm9) a...
The best CD player with volume control
to Nhorton, I was a huge a Wadia fan. I thought I was close to the best that 16/44 could sound when I ditched a modified LS22 and bought the 21 over a year ago and started running direct. As we all know in this hobby you don't know what you have u...
The best CD player with volume control
Jrud, Perhaps I could shed some light on this dilema for you. As I write this I am about ten hours into my first impressions of a CD50 I bought on this site. I sold my Wadia 21 and had anticipated landing a 16 that was available here in Atlanta lo...
Best CDR ?
one thing I forgat to mention about the Marantz which was a pleasnat surprise was the quality of the AD converters. VERY acceptable sound with a good input. also not a bad sounding cd player in its own right. can be had for under 1K used.
Best CDR ?
I agree with what has been said. My advice would be similar. Stay away from consumer units (use professional only, many advantages). I currently use a Marantz CDR620 professional. It is loaded with every type of input and output including balanced...
My Only Question Is.........
What would you guys recommend to someone with no preamp, no turntable but some cash to spend?
My Only Question Is.........
David, I would replace my cd collection in a heartbeat for the same on vinyl but thats just not possible. I certainly envious of those who have the music they love on vinyl.
My Only Question Is.........
Thanks for the ideas Nhorton, I think the processor loop sounds like a great idea.
My Only Question Is.........
don't be scared David, why don't you enlighten me.
