Harbeth P3ESR vs Fritz Rev 5 vs DeVore Gibbon 3XL
sorry No Regrets, forgot we had conversed on the other thread:)
Harbeth P3ESR vs Fritz Rev 5 vs DeVore Gibbon 3XL
No regrets,I don't have any direct experience with any of the three you listed either but all three (including tracking down an older pair of Proac 1sc which I have owned before) were ones I was looking at as well as den speaker for a den 13' by 1...
KEF LS50
I would think the LS50 would better compare to the 7s or possibly the 30.1. I imagine in certain areas it will not be up to par with the Harbeth's but in the important areas be very similar. Throw in some of the unique things that its driver desig...
KEF LS50
Bob,Same for me. This is where Harbeth is great.Body, weight and resolution together. My experience is that the driver size and material makes a big difference here. This is where I was most skeptical of the KEF before the purchase. the LS50 is re...
KEF LS50
All valid observations. I would disagree with BIll however that this just a small box speaker with a pretty midrange. Every two way has its breaking point, if not there would not be 10 models in front of the Magico Mini.Kef was perfectly comfortab...
KEF LS50
Sorry Bob, did not realize I was fraternizing with the enemy:)!!So this clear (and not to turn this into a Harbeth thread) but IMO they make the most musical speakers I have owned. The 40.1 is a marvel and worth full retail. I could go on and on a...
KEF LS50
Yes Taters that would be what I would say, at least based on my experience with the Harbeth sound which I love and have quite a bit of experience with.As for the desktop, I have no doubt they would be great as nearfield monitors, I think they were...
advice on amp - $3,500 maximum budget
Lets just say the Marantz has been somewhat of a revelation for me. I should preface by saying that transistors have not had much of a place in my system, at any level, for a long time. I still feel quite strongly that is far easier assembling a m...
advice on amp - $3,500 maximum budget
Mcondon,i had the Ayre V5xe (very good) and a pair of Rowland 501 monos (which I thought were awful) on loan for two weeks awaiting my Ma9s2 (still waiting) and I would hands down take the Marantz sm11-s1 over both of them despite the price differ...
advice on amp - $3,500 maximum budget
I have been a tube fan for twenty years and have owned many listed here including the RM200. Recently dipped back into SS after many years and threw my hat in the ring with a Marantz SM11-s1, driven with a tube preamp. This amp is very very good. A...
Recommend a small tube amp for bedroom use?
I'll throw this one in the ring even though it is unlikely you will find one. SAC audio Thailand made an SE amp called the Minuet, it is still listed on their website. I have owned at least 30 low powered amps in my life many of them kilobuck 300b...
Looking for a first Tube Amp for under $1000
Listen to Oz and Troyca, if that RM9 is available snag it. You simply cannot do better than that. In fact, with some minor tweaks here and there I am not sure one can do much better at any price point in a PP design.
Suggestion for preamp - Spendor's & Cary
Late post. The Spendors, all big Spendors, devour power. The more quality tube power you can feed them the better. Forget their power rating, feed them plenty. Things just get better. I would look at some strong monblocs and stick with tubes. Spen...
Reference DACS: An overall perspective
Thanks for your response Teajay. Just a comment on low end "extension". It has been my experience that among other things one of the easiest ways I can identify great analogue from great digital is not in the deep bass but in the low / midbass. th...

Great thread. nice to see some usefull exchanges without things falling apart. I would love input from this group on a decision I have been considering.I have owned a heavily modified Resolution Audio Quantum dac for some time now. Imagine the GNS...
