Anyone using Graham IC-70 w/ SME V?
I had the same issue with my Hovland Music Groove II phono cable. I think it is a Cardas right-angle DIN. I loosened the set screw on the side of the DIN connector and rotated it 90 degrees. It was no problem.
Share your real knowledge on cartridge arm matchin
I find the Sumiko Celebration cartridge and SME V to be a very good (synergistic?) combination. I read that the cartridge was designed/voiced using an SME V arm and SME 30 table. This is a very good value cartridge.I plan to listen to and possibly...
Slate vs Granite vs Maple?
I have found that heavy brass footers draw the tiny vibrations away from my turntable and into a 4" maple platform with great results. The sound became cleaner, tighter and more focused. If I had the space and money, I would do this for each of my...
SME record clamp causing convex playing surface
Thanks for everone's response. I bought another washer which is half the thickness of the SME washer and did some listening tests. With the new washer, the LP was essentially flat on the platter and tightening the clamp slightly did create good co...
SME record clamp causing convex playing surface
This occurs with all of my records, any thickness. It is the original black SME washer that came with the table which I bought new from a dealer. I don't know the exact thickness or diameter of the washer, but I think it is just over an inch in di...
SME record clamp causing convex playing surface
Thanks Pcosta, I thought of that. If I don't tighten the clamp at all, the LP is flat but raised entirely off the platter by the thickness of the washer. If I tighten the clamp just enough so that the outer edge of the LP touches the platter, the ...
Amp for EgglestonWorks Speakers?
Eggleston Rosa with Pass Labs XA160. Room is about 15 X 16.5. Speakers are on the long side. The combination is quite good, but more power would probably be better. Egglestons need power. The Pass X350.5 or X600.5 would probably be ideal, though I...
Best Cartridges for the Money You've Experienced
Bolson,Your original question seems to imply an interest in the issue of "value". I have a Sumiko Pearwood Celebration on my SME V arm. It cost only $1500 and is available for $2K today in an updated form. It competes well with more expensive cart...

FiveTable,Could you please describe the sound of your SME 10 with the Mapleshade platform and footers and how it changed when you replaced the rubber/cork footers with the granite slab? Do you use the Mapleshade brass footers between the turntable...

Mark,I just looked up your system. Have you compared the Superscoutmaster to the SME 10? I would be very interested in your impressions. I have not heard the new VPIs or compared my SME to other tables. I heard the SME 30 once in a completely diff...

I have a SME 10 with upgraded V arm and Sumiko Celebration cartridge all on a Mapleshade 4" platform with brass footers. Excellent combination. Details on my system page.
Symdex speakers any information on these?
I have a pair of Symdex Gammas from 1993. Excellent 2-way floorstanders which I drive with a Pass Aleph 3 for my plasma TV. I also have an old pair of Symdex Sigmas (2-way bookshelf on a stand or 3-way on the Omega woofer base) from about 1985. Le...
Eggleston Andra 2 owners
I only have the Eggleston Rosa, but I use Pass XA160 amps to great effect. Pass and Eggleston is a very good combination. I would consider the Pass X600.5 mono, X350.5 stereo or XA's. They are often available used on Audiogon. Your wife might find...
Best bang for the buck turntable?
I would suggest a used SME 10 table with V arm ($3400 or less here on Audiogon) and a new Sumiko Celebration cartridge ($1500). I don't know of a better analog front end for under 5K. (Of course, I am biased because this is what I own, and I paid ...
Eggleston Andra II and Pass Labs XA160's
Jgless,I have not heard the Andras. Since I posted this thread, I have reconsidered. I have a relatively small room and the Andras may be too much speaker. The Rosas have plenty of bass, but my issues are more room related so I am considering some...
