Class A amplifiers - which are considered the best My XA160.5's took five days on 24/5. Music did not have to be playing through them. They became smoother, more nuanced and opened up to sound more effortless.

Wyred 4 Sound STP Special Edition Vs. Pass X-1 Srwooten,This is a bit off topic, but have you considered the new Pass XP preamps? I replaced my X-1 with the XP-20 and found it to be more transparent. It just disappears from the system.
pass lab owners: can i afford one? I own the XA160.5's. They are fully powered up about 4 hours/day or 100 hours a month. My bill went up about 25% or $20 per month. I consider this a small price for the sonic benefits of class A amplification.
To buy or not to buy a used cartridge? I took a chance on an "unopened and unused" Japanese cartridge here on Audiogon and learned an interesting lesson. I spoke to the seller over the phone and even contacted a reference of his. Everything checked out fine. The cartridge was in new co...
Don't the Pass XP preamps have selectable gain? Tony,Some of the XPs have selectable gain, some don't. I just talked to Pass. You should contact them. They are most helpful on the phone or via email.

Don't the Pass XP preamps have selectable gain? Tony,I just compare the XP-20 manual which I received with my preamp to the online manual from the Pass Labs website. They are not the same document. In my manual, there is a paragraph located between the "Theater pass through" section and the "El...
Don't the Pass XP preamps have selectable gain? I own the XP-20 and just reread the manual regarding gain. Their are two settings, high and low. I quote, "The gain control toggles between two settings, offset from one another by 5 dB. The high gain selects +8dB and the low selects 4dB as the ma...
Has anyone heard Audio Replas IC's? Well, that's a good question, Tpreaves. I see your point. This pair belongs to a friend who can't use them. I'm still evaluating them, though I find them a bit less neutral than my Nordost. They also have a warmer, more relaxed sound which is very...

Hansen King V2 / TAD M1 / YG Studio Reference . It would be helpful to know at least something about your system, room and musical tastes. In the end, I recommend you make a short list and not buy anything at these big prices before auditioning the contenders in your own system. I have found th...
Hansen King V2 / TAD M1 / YG Studio Reference . How did you arrive at these three?
Under $10k budget Preamp suggestion, please. Melbguy1,The newer XP series preamps from Pass are better than the older X series. I had the X-1 and the now the XP-20 and the later is much better, though more expensive. Pass believes that the XP-10, a one-box unit is sonically superior to their... |
