Evolution Acoustics MMMicroOne
I think we will wait a while to hear from owners and perhaps for a review or two. There sure is a lot of pre-release buzz on these.
Silly turntable question
I agree with those who suggest that you simply get started. However, to answer one of your questions: there is quite a difference between the 9" and 12" SME arms. I spent two weeks directly comparing the SME V to the SME V-12 on an SME 30/12 table...
Table/Cart Set Up - By Ear or Test Record?
Doug, When I did move my arm base up vertically 2 mm at the pivot, I checked my overhang alignment on the MINT. I have a 12" arm, but I'm surprised by how much my HTA moved - well beyond my margin of error in set-up. I'm sure you and Doug don't ad...
Table/Cart Set Up - By Ear or Test Record?
Actusreus, Nice post. You make the point that I tried to make in my earlier thread on the VTA/HTA topic, only you articulate it much better than I did. I use a MINT protractor and now can adjust overhang in about 15 minutes when changing cartridge...
Magico Q7 . . . wow
"It is particularly true with a brand like Magico." I agree. They are so transparent and high in resolution, that one hears what the components are contributing up stream and what the room does. They add little coloration to mask the sound. They a...
Magico Q7 . . . wow
Hifi, I just read your latest post and then reread your earlier posts bashing Magico. They read like they are from two different people. I'm glad you had such a good recent experience with the Q7 and congratulate you on your willingness to give Ma...
Balanced preamp with HT pass-thru needed $2K
I owned one of the later model Aleph P with remote, then the X-1 and now the XP-20. The Aleph P was quite good in my all-Aleph system (Aleph ONO, Aleph 2) but it was not quite as transparent and neutral as the X-1. I'm also not sure it had a HT pa...
Balanced preamp with HT pass-thru needed $2K
Try to find a used Pass Labs X-1. I know it has balanced inputs and outputs and I believe it has a HT pass through. It is pretty neutral and a great value IMO. You could contact Mark at Reno Hifi. I have no affiliation. I owned this pre amp and Ma...
When to go solid state vs. vacuum?
I suggest you go and listen to a bunch of speakers in your price range and a few above it and a good local dealership. Select the speakers and then select an amp to drive that particular speaker in your particular room and at the volume level that...
Electronic stylus force gauge question
Is there a way to reset the value to 0.00? There is on my Micro-Tech XMT-200 electronic gauge. I also just checked it and if it is not level, it sometimes shows a negative reading.
TW Raven Owners: Set Up Questions
I used my Vibraplane on the unsuspended SME Model 10 and noticed a significant improvement. I now have it under my suspended SME Model 30/12. I would say the improvement is only very slight as the 30/12 already has a superior suspension and I don'...
TW Raven Owners: Set Up Questions
Suteetat, I can't answer that. And I'm not sure you will ever get your floor to flex. I'm just saying that Halcro is describing a type of pre-stressed concrete slab and it will not behave like a standard concrete slab located on the ground. You ma...
TW Raven Owners: Set Up Questions
Ebm, it's engineering and Halcro sounds like an architect. I understand about these prestressed concrete slabs. They are thin, and do flex, but they don't break under the design load. Think of a very hard, yet bouncy web. I imagine that they could...
Speaker Placement Issue/Thoughts
No problem, Tholt. Just be careful not to stretch or let sag the yarm 1/16th of an inch or more. And how do you assure that the same spot on the yarn hits the exact spot on each speaker. I have tried using string that does not stretch except under...
The Best Compliment You've Gotten On Your Rig?
Almost no one really cares about listening to my system. A have a few audio buddies over from time to time, but besides that, it is pretty much a solitary pursuit. But that's OK.However, just the other day I had a reviewer friend up from NYC come ...
