FUSE BOX delivers perfect protection and superior sound
If it's the same Mark Schifter, he was one of the pioneers in digital audio (Audio Alchemy, Perpetual Technology) and has always represented innovation & value in the audio industry.  Audio Alchemy was responsible for the DITB (Dac in the Box)...
Analyzing DACs
I don't know much about the Mytek line, but they have an interesting approach.  The Mytek offers the choice of analog & digital volume control.  Indeed, there seem to be a lot of similarities between the Brooklyn & P6.  Both have preamp fa...
Dual mono integrated amps
@voodoochillin In that case(!), to find out the best practice for dual mono-ism in that form factor/price range, just lift the cover on your integrated. I have full faith in Nelson Pass.
I feel bad for Generation X and The Millennial's
"Turn off the TV" Go out.  Frequently.  Hear live music in your community.  Old musicians, young ones, male, female, undeclared, unknown, famous, folk, rock, jazz, bluegrass, blues, soul, funk, hip hop, classical.  There is great music all around...
Dual mono integrated amps
To return to the original question, have you checked out the Parasound Hint 6?  Extremely versatile, with built-in phono & DAC sections, crossovers for subwoofing, Home Theater bypass...  A bit of a kitchen sink, but a great one box solution f...
Dual mono integrated amps
I applaud the dual mono concept in integrateds, but it's not the same as mono blocks.  Separate chassis, separate power cords, even separate circuit breakers if you can arrange it. That said, you can get fine sound from an integrated amp, and dua...
best external drive for ripping CDs
There are multiple ripping software programs that use the AccurateRip database to verify the CD content checksums.  DBPowerAmp is perhaps the best & best known.  Exact Audio Copy (EAC) is free (donations gladly accepted) and also uses Accurate...
Interesting situation! Do we need this....
Never heard the Fluance speakers, but this is why I disagree that "high end" should necessarily be linked to price.  I think it's a reflection of the maker's intent.  If you're serious about making good sounding gear, it can be done at a fairly lo...
HELP!!!! Newbie looking for a decent 2 channel power amp in the $1,000 range
A23 was in production until 2018, so the + model should be only a few years old.  Sounds like you're set!
Why is everyone so down on MQA?
My understanding is that MQA is a successor to HDCD.  HDCD was originally developed as attempt to add resolution above 44.1k on CDs.  Higher frequency information is encoded (hopefully inaudibly on non-HDCD compliant devices) into the CD data, and...
life span/failure rate of filter capacitors?
Note that loss of capacitance would result in poorer filtration and eventually an increase in your noise floor. Nelson Pass is one of my audio idols, but I'm not sure his words are entirely relevant to the OP.  Cap lifetime may not be the same in...
Perception and Watts: Doubling of power
50 W difference isn't really that much - unless the user is pushing the lower powered amp into clipping.  Clipping results in increased high frequency content, harsher sound, and possible damage to speakers and/or amp.
Where does "MidFi" differ from "HiFi" or "LOFI"?
I have a totally different take on this.  Breaking down these categories by price point is basically another kind of objectivist approach.  The High End or whatever you want to call it differentiated itself originally by its focus on sound quality...
Vintage worth the time to explore?
As others have noted, all gear sounds better when played louder, within their performance envelope.  Many will scorn their use, but if your Marantz has a loudness button, give it a try.  If you're satisfied with the result, then don't worry for no...
What am I missing?
The idea you can "timeshare" 1,000,000 albums for the price of one is enticing.  Assuming 1n hour/album and no eating, sleeping, working-type distractions, it should take a bit over 114 years to listen through all of them.  Of course, by the time ...
