New Fischer & Fischer Audio 670 Speakers : Made Out Of SLATE.. @rick2000 Id be curious to hear them. Slate, like cast iron or granite, is an intriguing material for speakers because of its resonance control and rigidity. My question was directed @serjio who seems to think a speaker is a violin.

Coaxials - Reality vs. Experience? I’ve been building/listening to Coax speakers for just over two years? 5 different drivers in 9 or 10 unique enclosures? (Tannoy, SB Acoustics, Seas and Dayton) Currently listening to a pair of Seas C16N001/F in enclosures I built following Seas ...
My 30 Watt class A is louder than my 100 Watt Class AB? Very much appreciate the input/information! This surprise, sent me down a rabbit hole of “research”. Now, I have more questions than I had prior to this observation :)
My 30 Watt class A is louder than my 100 Watt Class AB? Heard back from Stanton re: the Hiraga specs Input sensitivity is .5v 30db of gain - not 26 as I had thought. That would explain the volume increase! The Cary SLP-30 I am driving it with has variable gain, so I gave some wiggle room to play w ...
My 30 Watt class A is louder than my 100 Watt Class AB? Volume isn’t my problem :) Using 4ohm 84db speakers, I never go past 11 o’clock on the dial :)
My 30 Watt class A is louder than my 100 Watt Class AB? Thanks. I re read the answers, watched the video, and it’s a bit clearer now! Hiraga has a gain of 26db, input sensitivity TBD. Adcom has a gain of 27db, and an input sensitivity of 1.25V I’m going to contact the vendor for the Hiraga PC board...
My 30 Watt class A is louder than my 100 Watt Class AB? @yogiboy Thanks! That was what I thought. Wasn’t until after I had listened for a bit that it dawned on me the impedance difference was the cause.
DIY Steampunk Tube Amplifier, feedback please :) Good times! Great solution to your set up. Question. How did you deal with the switching between the two? Asking, because tube amps don’t like not seeing a load on the output. Can both the amps be on at the same time, or can only one be powere...
Why is it that every time, lately, that I'm interested in a thread... @hilde45 Lemme help you out @kenjit
Why don't higher end amplifiers come with a separate power chassis? Yeah. Car audio is responsible for the ability of speakers to handle highpower. Right Small drivers, that can handle higher power came about when higher power solid state amps became a viable option as opposed to the lower powered tube...
Why don't higher end amplifiers come with a separate power chassis? The two most expensive parts of a solid state power amp? The chassis, and the power supply. It’s a cost thing. Now, as I’m about to build a single ended EL34 power amp, I plan to put the power supply in a separate chassis. Mainly for noise i...
How long does it take a decent quality speaker to "wear out"? 50 year old ESL57’s 45 year old Cornwalls’s 50 year old Dynaco A25’s All still working just fine :)
