Amp vs Preamp which is more important? You have an $18K amp paired with a $2K preamp. While I've not owned either product, I would bet there's a good likelihood that the entry level preamp is holding back your high end amp. I'd only be looking to change out the preamp, unless the amp...
New Improved Fink Team Borg Episode 2 Speakers : End-Game Speakers ? @rick2000 I'm starting to think you are a paid audio equipment influencer, based upon your postings. How much does a gig like that pay? I agree they look like coffins... so not a fan of the shape, but the finish is excellent and they would pr...
I am interested to update my 15 year old system ! The efficiency of Zu speakers pair well with low power SET amps which would be a big draw for me. SET amps when paired the right speakers are very enjoyable in my limited experience. Your listening taste of Sinatra, Krall and Jazz would benefit ...
Shindo Vosne Romanee / MC240 / Linn LP12 / ProAc & Altec - DAC? I’ll take a stab at a few of your questions: 2. I use Silent Running Audio VR series isolation platforms. It’s a bit of an up front investment, but they are effective, easy to use and look nice. 3. I don’t use power conditioners, but do have ded...
VAC Phi 300.1 won't power on. I'd start with checking the fuses.
I feel it is time to upgrade my 1977 system....... So in the last few months, I've demo'ed the following tube amps with my Model 19's: Coincident Frankenstein monoblocks (8 wpc)... very nice sound, but not enough power to generate adequate bass Consonance integrated with four 300B's (approx. 1...

Siemens EL 34 @jjss49 both the KT77 and KT88's that I have owned are the current re-issues, which I've heard pale in comparison to the originals.
Siemens EL 34 @decooney I tried Gold Lion KT77's back when I owned a Music Reference RM9 MK2. I preferred Gold Lion KT88's and Siemens EL34's in this amp, as the GL KT77's lacked emotion and just sounded too clean & lean in my experience. YMMV.
Siemens EL 34 @decooney another benefit to the QS is I'll only be swapping out four power tubes vs. eight power tubes in the RM9 MK2. Good to know I should expect a 200-300 hour break-in before the KT150's are settled in.
Siemens EL 34 I recently sold my RM9 MK2, despite many telling me to never sell it. Next to a VAC 70/70 Signature (eight 300B's in push/pull), it was the best amp I've owned. Time will tell if I regret it. I have a pair of Quicksilver KT Mono's with KT-150's...
Siemens EL 34 I'd say you are pretty well set on tubes... no need to try more unless you are a collector.
Siemens EL 34 Do you consider your Amperex/Mullard EL34’s to be head and shoulders superior sounding to your other EL34’s and 6L6’s?
Siemens EL 34 Thanks for the lead... I've been doing this a long time and I had not previously heard of HiFiTown.
Siemens EL 34 NOS Mullard EL34's are supposed to be the ultimate, but they are very difficult to find and very expensive. As an aside, Mullard EL34 re-issues where the worst tubes I ever purchased... clear as mud, soft... just awful sounding. |
