Siemens EL 34 I'd say you are pretty well set on tubes... no need to try more unless you are a collector.
Siemens EL 34 Do you consider your Amperex/Mullard EL34’s to be head and shoulders superior sounding to your other EL34’s and 6L6’s?
Siemens EL 34 Thanks for the lead... I've been doing this a long time and I had not previously heard of HiFiTown.
Siemens EL 34 NOS Mullard EL34's are supposed to be the ultimate, but they are very difficult to find and very expensive. As an aside, Mullard EL34 re-issues where the worst tubes I ever purchased... clear as mud, soft... just awful sounding.
Siemens EL 34 I was not familiar with Tesla EL34's until Mike Sanders @ Quicksilver recommended them with his Mid Mono's... but I'm not sure if he's selling them to the general public, but they are listed on the Quicksilver website.
Siemens EL 34 I'm not sure what you are goals are... but other considerations based upon my experience using Music Reference RM9 MK2 as the host amp: RAM Labs Chinese EL34's were very enjoyable, especially for the bargain price. Very lush, warm and detailed...
Siemens EL 34 I used two quads in my Music Reference RM9 MK2 for about two years. I’ve since sold the amp, but held onto a quad for possible use in future tube amps. I consider them to be on the warm side of neutral... not thin, nor extremely warm. Bass is tigh...
Advice on how to liquidate system I agree with others on giving it at least a year, as a combination of healing and slight gear modifications (adding an equalizer) may allow you to regain your enjoyment of listening. I you end up deciding to sell all or some of your gear, I rec...
Gary Fischer Horn Speakers?? @bruceferrara I recommend you post this on HiFi Haven, as there are many knowledgeable Altec enthusiasts on that site.
Looking for high power warming sounding tube amps Quicksilver Q4 monoblocks
Gary Fischer Horn Speakers?? I'd be curious as well. I love my Model 19's but am intrigued by other Altec builds, especially with 604 drivers.
I feel it is time to upgrade my 1977 system....... I have to come clean... While I did like what the Coincident Frankenstein's did for my Altec's, I came to realize that the exceptionally powerful dynamics that the 19's are capable of were missing with the low powered Franks. So I've sold the Fr...
I feel it is time to upgrade my 1977 system....... @curtdr wrote: "If you're intent on keeping the Altecs, OK... but speakers too have come a long way for the money. If you like lively and yet with that "audiophile classy sound" and old-school looks: Klipsch Forte IV. aprox $5000" My Model 19'...
I feel it is time to upgrade my 1977 system....... @charles1dad I acquired the Franks about a month ago and the Music Reference RM9 MKII has been sold to a good home. The Franks have proven to be a better match for the Altec’s, as they allow me to hear deeper into the music.
I feel it is time to upgrade my 1977 system....... I have refurbished Model 19's and I use Coincident Frankenstein tube monoblocks. There are two pairs listed right now on US Audiomart and I've had very favorable dealings with the gentleman selling the like new MK III's in suburban Chicago. The ... |
