How would you characterize the VAC tube amps? I don't think VAC amps can be characterized with a house sound, as sound from their 300B based Renaissance amps (30/30, 70/70) is very different from the KT88 based Phi 200. The VAC Phi 200 has very robust bass, but lacks transparency, air and sw...
sharp and piercing high pitch /frequency coming out from Harbeth C7 I experienced similar issues when I made the change from 40.1's to 40.2 Anni's. Changing the amplifier may help some, but the fix for me was experimenting with placement, most notably toe'ing in the speakers so the tweeters align to cross in fron...
Ever Hear a Tube CD player? I'm on my second Audio Aero Capitol... outstanding CDP, DAC and preamp in one unit.
Warm romantic & detailed Harbeth M-40.1’s would be a perfect fit for your desired qualities and budget. I've owned them twice, spending a combined 8 years with them and only just recently replaced them with 40.2 Anni's. Great speaker for warm, rich, full bodied, organi...
Experience with Cary CAD 808, "Rocket 88" ditto @decooney Spendor SP 1/2e's are on my bucket list. I bet they'd sound fantastic with a moderately powered vintage EL34 tube amp.
New Melody Gardot release I'm listening to the Qobuz version labeled HR... and it sounds sublime, regardless of the actual sampling rate.
Bluesound Vault 2i, with external DAC and hi-end CD player I own the Bluesound Vault 2, connected to the DAC of an Audio Aero Capitol Reference CDP. While I've found the Bluesound definitely benefits from an external DAC, the cd's ripped to the Vault don't sound as good as cd's played direct from my CDP.
What's the deal with Vintage Tube Service? I cancelled an order with Andy at Vintage Tube Services over a decade ago because it was taking too long to fill the order and he’s banned me from making new purchases ever since. Don’t cross him, or "NO SOUP FOR YOU!!!"Brent Jessee has been my go...
Lampizator to which dedicated music streamer? @ three_easy_paymentsDo you know if there are sizable sound quality differences between the U1 and the U1 Mini? I know the U1 has an all aluminum housing, but I would not want to spend more just for aesthetics. Also, have you tried bypassing you...
Who's using Harbeth with tubes, what speaker model and how many watts per channel? @aj523 would love to see that review translated into English, but have been unable to find it.
Tubes most likely to improve SQ? RAM EL34's are rich and smooth sounding. Highly recommended.
Who's using Harbeth with tubes, what speaker model and how many watts per channel? I've used Harbeth 40.1's with the following tube amps:McIntosh MC275 MKV - 75 WPC (good synergy)VAC Ren. 30/30 MK3 - 32 WPC (love this amp, but could have benefitted from more power)VAC Ren. 70/70 Sig - 68 WPC (great amp, great synergy)VAC PHI 200...
Thought My Harbeth M40.1's Were Forever Speakers - Guess Not ditto @twoleftears
Thought My Harbeth M40.1's Were Forever Speakers - Guess Not ditto @twoleftears I've recently been corresponding with a fellow Goner that recently purchased a new pair of 40.3XD's that confirmed he was initially very worried as they were initially very harsh, but finally blossomed after a break-in period.
Is this an Upgrade or a Lateral Move? John Atkinson's Stereophile measurements indicate Pulsars are easy to drive... "the Pulsar is an easy load for the partnering amplifier to drive. Not only is the phase angle relatively low, the impedance remains above 8 ohms for most of the audio... |
