Jimmy Thackery And The Drivers LIVE
I saw him live 3 times back in the late 90's (Stanhope NJ, Orlando, FL, Norfolk, VA) and each time, WHOA !! Didn't know him when he was with the Nighthawks but only with the Drivers. So glad to hear he's still blowing it out live. His CD album "In...
What is Good Quality & Simple to use AV receiver?
Willand:That's interesting about the Marantz. How did you or where did you obtain that bench test data? Yes I believe that 70% derating value is conservative. My first real receiver back in the 1980s was NAD and it lasted for decades. NAD offers s...
What is Good Quality & Simple to use AV receiver?
Yes Marantz and NAD are excellent choices, also Rotel. Can't go wrong with these. Just keep in mind one important point about power ratings on AVRs. Marantz rates their per channel power based on 2 channels not all 5 or 7 even if it says 100w X 7,...
old expensive cd player or new cd mid price ?
For what it's worth, I have the Marantz DV6001 used for 2 channel and multi-channel SACD and it is superb for the money. I can't believe the sound that comes from this unit. Love it. I would say the DV9500 would sound even better. Is this new or d...
Mid-priced CDPs: Old vs. new technology
Hesson11:Good topic. If the Jolida JD100 for example is the exact same design today as it was 10 years ago, then I'd tend to agree with you that this unit would be of somewhat "older technology". The key word is "IF". It still may be a fantastic m...
Music sounds natural when player kept powered on
It would be beneficial to know what the various CD player manufacturers advise about this. They're the folks who should know this intimately. Is the machine's life shortened by leaving it powered up all of the time? Yes or no?? Does the power supp...
Nakamichi OMS7 vs Rotel RCD1072 ?
Not familiar with that NAK model you mentioned but did a quick internet search and this unit has not been produced for a long time. I did own a NAK CD4 a few years ago purchased used and I did love it. Sound was excellent but Nakamichi is out of t...
B&W LCR600 s3 or HTM2 center speaker
The HTM61 and 62 incorporate the latest B&W loudspeaker technology for the 600 series. They incorporate B&W's "FST" technology and how it improves the issue of standing waves in the center of the mid-range drivers, shorter signal path betw...
Large room challenges
Yes, speaking with a professional is the correct path. I have noticed these rooms do have a bass traps on the walls. A ballroom size space is going to have issues with being to lively and would need to be deadened somewhat for music.
3.5mm mini plug cable
Aaronmadler: Thanks. Yes, it's working fine. Switching gears a bit, how do you like your Oppo BDP-83 for CDs? Do you use it strictly for playing music CDs? How's the punch & slam for the bass extension? How about the mids?
Upgrade cdp
Sorry no experience with the two you are considering but how did you like the NAD C542? I had the C541i for quite some time. What about staying with NAD and upgrading to the M5 Master Series? This machine can do it all (SACD, HDCD, separate power ...
Any smooth jazz fans out there?
Wow, what a thread. My longest yet !! Thanks everyone for your support and apologies. I honestly never intended to offend anyone and I can understand where the purists are coming from. Believe me, I don't like all of the so called smooth jazz (or ...
Any smooth jazz fans out there?
I'm sorry I asked. If you're not a fan, then zip it and keep your classless immature opinions to yourself. You don't belong on this forum. I can't believe you would disrespect someone else's musical interest. My intention for this thread was to op...
3.5mm mini plug cable
Thanks all. I ended up going with a $5.00 Radio Shack 6' cable and it works fine. No compromise in sound whatsoever. This is simply to activate the 12V trigger of the amp from the receiver.
What good cd players are there for under $1000
Yes the Rotel RCD-1072 is terrific with great reviews over the years it's been available from Rotel. I've had mine for about 4 years now. It's no longer manufactured and the replacement is the new Rotel RCD-1520. Paid $699.00 for it originally. Ma...
