Opinions on why this system is uninvolving
Un-involving is such a vague word. You don't indicate if these upgrades were done over time, even a relatively short period, or all at once. I would always recommend changing only one component and living with the results a short while to reduce t...
Best CD tracks used to compare equipment?
In this case familiarity does not breed contempt. Listen to the music you like and recordings you know. Hopefully, you like a variety of music so that you will be able to ascertain a components full range. I hold a singular opinion that you should...
Where do I position 4 speakers for 3D stereo sound
Just took a look at the Dynavector site and, indeed , the additional channels face forward towards the main speakers. The system is called Super-Stereo. I don't know much more about it, but look it up. Seems you need propriatery speakers though. C...
Where do I position 4 speakers for 3D stereo sound
You will have a rough time with the people here on the 'Gon with almost anything but two channel, analogue/vinyl tweaked out systems, being fed reconstituted power through special ac cords. So there I said it, again. Do I fell any better? No, not ...
Where do I position 4 speakers for 3D stereo sound
Some kind of processing is needed or else what you will wind up with is sitting between two stereo pairs playing the same thing. To get any kind of ambiance, the rear speakers have to be fed a different signal than the front ones, or else they wou...
What's your favorite speaker finish?
Funny you should ask that, since I have had a dedicated listening room for over twenty years, I would not mind the best sounding speakers available in some el cheapo Nextel or flat black industrial crap-type finish, I think. I wonder how much of a...
Tracking Force - Where to set it?
His first post indicated the most recent model, so that should be a V15 V xMR, I guess. So with the proper tracking force set with a guauge and with the proper compensation for the brush stabilizer, maybe the anti-skate should be varied slightly t...
Tracking Force - Where to set it?
Do get a gauge, do not rely on the calibration found on the arm. The Shure V15's tracking force has to be set higher (the 1 gram stated above, I believe, is correct) to compensate for the brush stabilizer. In fact, the V-15 normally tracks perfect...
Arm resonance and other questions..
I am planning to listen to CDs through some rake and gravel noise to see just how good or bad CDs can sound. Face it, an LP is a mechanical device and if the groove is gone, it's gone. You can clean it, wet dry, chemicals no chemicals, 'till the c...
Turntable upgrade - worth the effort?
Assuming the SOTA has been properly stored for that period and was not torture tested by its owner, installing the REGA RB 300 and getting a replacement cartridge should ensure you better sound than what you presently have. SOTA is back in busines...
Thiel cs 2.3 or B&W N803,804?
Trust your ears. Look at the whole system and don't isolate one of its links. Enjoy the music. From the mid-fi trenches, good day.
WHat about four speakers.......
Detlof: sorry about my poison pen (hmm, keyboard?) coming out again. Some time, when the moon holds water, I revert to my true nature: that of a curmudgeon. No excuse, but I guess TWL's early post is what prompted my barbs. Again, what bothers me ...
WHat about four speakers.......
I suspected all along that people who insist on the importance of cables would simply freak out at the thought of adding channels. Yippers! Imagine having to have the best Siltech all around! Imagine having to cryo the lot! Mythtrip, better ring u...
Turntable/Cartridge/Phono Stage questions
Get a Sumiko Pro-Ject Phono Box and you can relive the glory days of ticks and pops which may make you wonder what the fuss over vinyl is all about, without spending much money. That's what I did when I got an AR line stage. Good day.
who repairs sonic frontiers?
Why is sending an amp to Canada fo repairs a hassle? Do they speak a foreign tongue? They cannot be trusted since they are foreigners? There is paper work requiring many hours of diligent work by a lawyer? There currency is too low causing pangs o...
