$10 / foot speaker wire The AQ is fine, but the Mapleshade is a lot nicer looking. I'd go with that.
Should I upgrade from my Pre1L to Rogue 66 Magnum? I have never heard the Rogue, but I have a Pre2L, and I used to have an AI M3a. From what I remember of the measured performance of the Rogue, I doubt it would be an upgrade. The Anthem preamps are really very good. Their only flaw is a tendency t...
How to tame the high of harbeth C7 Or Compact 7, or 7ES (I), they're all the same except for minor cosmetic differences and a slightly revised formulation of the woofer material in the last series (but not corresponding to the name change). The drivers, crossovers and cabinet speci...
How to tame the high of harbeth C7 Nice to see someone dispelling the notion that Harbeths are rolled off, but they aren't inherently bright either. As Newbee suggests, sidewall reflections and toe-in are worth considering, as are ceiling reflections and hard furniture reflections....
Is there a cd player that sounds close to an LP? Like Charlie, I listen to cds all the time. (I also have a turntable to listen to old records.) Except for the occasional bad cd, I never have any fatigue or pain. Nothing bright. And I don't like bright. My speakers are not rolled off. I have mea...
I can't stop listening on my headphones. I think those headphones sound great because they have a very flat frequency response and low distortion. No worries about room effects. Be careful about playing them too loud for too long.
Harbeth P3es-2 + Rel strata or Harbeth P7es-s? Dodgealum, just out of curiosity, how big is your room, how high are the speaker stands, and do you have anything like a coffee table between you and the speakers?
How to Biwire? To bi-wire, remove them, but try it both ways to see which you prefer.
Harbeth P3es-2 + Rel strata or Harbeth P7es-s? It's called the "HL Compact 7ES-2" or "C7"They are totally different speakers. The P3 is tiny, shoebox sized. The C7 is fairly large, with an 8 inch mid-woofer and big cabinet, about 20 inches high by 11-12 inches wide and a little deeper than wid...
Home HiFi better than Live? The whole point of my trying to get good sound from my first hifi system was to try to get Tracy Nelson's records to sound like she did in person. Getting close now, but it's taken 30 years. Of course, when I listen to her at home, she never gets ...
Quad 12L, PMC TB2, or Harbeth Compact 7ES-2? You've never heard the Harbeth if you think it's "old school Brit," forgiving or lacks transparency, or else there is something wrong with your hearing. It isn't rolled off on top to any appreciable extent. If anything, it may have a little too mu...
advice on brightness Speakers - according to the NRC's measurements, your speakers have a broad peak from about 750hz to 1500hz. This will overemphasize high vocal fundamentals, like sopranos, and instruments in the same range as a soprano voice and will more likely b...
How to respond to those who say it's not a hobby? Man, you guys just won't let up. What's to be defensive about? Sure a hobby is anything you spend your time doing that you don't get paid for, but not by Mghcanuck's wife's standards. Her idea of a hobby is something you do with your hands or your...
How to respond to those who say it's not a hobby? Your wife is right. Save your money. Or spend it on something you can build or assemble, like a tube amplifier from a kit.I agree that buying stuff is not a hobby. Tweaking, tuning, cleaning records, aligning and realigning phono cartridges, I gue...
What's the most important speaker attribute...and Well, I didnt think I was disagreeing with you in any material respect, but it depends on how you define accuracy. It is possible to measure a speaker's frequency response, and get a flat reponse, but still have high levels of distortion. Of cours... |
