Power output of tube amps compared to solid states I think it is useful to differentiate between matters of opinion and matters that do involve empirical differences but differences that we may not currently be able to accurately measure. We do not currently measure amplifiers playing actual music ...
Power output of tube amps compared to solid states Arther, I quite enjoyed your post as well (and previous) but was also a bit confused as to which of your comments apply to SE topology and which to class A bias. Seems to me it was actually mostly the former.
Cary CAD 805 AE tubes Why would Sophia release such a tube? Interesting.
Attn Vinyl lovers - what CD Player do you use? The Audio Note Kits DAC 2.1C (roughly equiv to factory DAC 3 I believe) was truly a revelation to me after trying a number of DACs and CDPs, some up to 3x its price. The smoothness and timbre of the NOS/filterless topology with great dynamics and ...
review 'db audio labs tranquility dac "A properly designed DAC (and you can certainly find them for hundreds of dollars less than the one being reviewed above)..."If only all of those silly people who have spent a bit of money on digital playback realized that it was possible to get a...
Mismatched Preamp/Amp Impedance--What Will I Hear? There is no way it is anywhere near 100K as stated. If the preamp is tranny-coupled it could be as low as <100R. If not and has a cathode follower then ~1000R. If neither could be as high as 2-3K ohms - that is about the upper-limit.
How much better will a preamp be over a processor If you listen mainly to compressed, modern pop music, or non-acoustic music, digitally, then Bob is right - speakers make "the most" difference. If not then the electronics in the chain are just or nearly as important.
Why monoblocks? Very often the motivation for *buying* monoblocks is that there is no choice if one wants a certain amplifier or manufacturer. There are many great stereo amps that cannot be had as monos and vice-versa.In very high-power and/or class-A designs, p...
Why monoblocks? Audiofiel's association of mono amps with mono records strikes me as dubious, though I will tell you that you would never see a stereo amp on the Springfield Monorail and with good reason.I use MBL monoblocks as doorstops. Let me tell you one thin...
Good tube tech in Milwaukee, WI? Clio,Thanks - Bob took a look at my phono pre and found one of the AN caps was bad. It's playing now and sounding amazingly good.I highly recommend Bob's work! He was able to take a look at it basically immediately and fixed it for a very modest c...
Good tube tech in Milwaukee, WI? Had no idea you were in the area, Elizabeth. Have read many of your posts in analog.Unfortunately Waukesha is as far away from me as possible whilst still qualifying as "Milwaukee", it is a 48m drive.
Good tube tech in Milwaukee, WI? I am going to check out Audio Ventures - thx!(I'd rather just send it off to CA rather than drive to Chi/Madison...)
Single Ended-Parallel or PP Class A Tube Amp? Whether or not your speaker has smooth impedance and phase plots and was designed for low/no-feedback tube amps are the most important pieces of information. That and the volume level & room size.
Why did I get married? I really feel sorry for some of you guys. And seeing the Grateful Dead 125 times would surely put me in a bad mood for the rest of my life as well.
Parallel Triode amps vs Triode wired pentode amps Jeff,Paralleled 300Bs do not drive speakers like a 211 or 845 SET despite the similar wattage ratings. A 211 or 845 will drive fairly easily a three-way speaker with mid-sized bass driver(s) as long as the impedance & phase are fairly benign w... |
