How can different CAT5/6 cables affect sound.
@retiredaudioguy. I am confident there are those who claim to here the differences between 568 A and B. Im equally confident they will hear differences between 568 A and 568A as in your first post.  @oberoniaomnia  Oooh, there you go getting all ...
How can different CAT5/6 cables affect sound.
@jea48 I depended on Fluke gear for years and even did some consulting on the original LanMeter. We even suggested "If it works, it's a Fluke" for an advertising slogan, but Marketing wasn't amused. I still think it was a lost opportunity.
How can different CAT5/6 cables affect sound.
@richardbrand Switched  Ethernet typically does not use CSMA/CD (Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Detection) for its primary operation. While CSMA/CD is a fundamental part of Ethernet technology and was essential for early Ethernet ne...

"I don't pretend to understand the science." Perhaps the understatement and flag banner of this century.  Whatever differences people are hearing have nothing whatsoever to do with what happens at the transport layers. They are trying to.apply an...
Do Audiophiles usually keep the gain of the digital source at around 80%?
Y'all need to learn gainstaging. And if any of your gear has a bit-stripping digital volume control, take it out back and put it out of its misery.
Adcom Amp Owners Rejoice!
@mrdecibel . Nope. In the mid 1980s, Pass designed the well-reviewed Adcom GFA-555 amplifier. This was a Bipolar Junction Transistor (BJT) based design. Nelson also designed the GFA-5XXX MOSFET-based series of high-bias class-AB amplifiers for Adc...
Adcom Amp Owners Rejoice!
I have 2 535s and a 545 in use in my theater. They are workhorses, and now, at 30+ years I have yet to experience any issues, just that good Nelson Pass-designed MOSFET sound. If and when they go, I'm not sure what I would turn to for replacements...
Ground loop hum
@jea48  You clearly understand what causes hum, now its a matter of where and how. You’re doing all the right things. That the hum is controlled by the volume control and only on the phono input narrows it down a lot. @kavakat1 One more variable ...
Just got a new power amp
1) If your power amp has 6dB more gain that means you need to pad the input by 6dB or else you lose 6dB of s/n  and dynamic range. That's gainstaging. Every pro is taught gainstaging pretty much from day one. Most audiophiles aren't pros, and have...
Decent backup cartridge
@jasonbourne71 I ordered a Grado Platinum 3, then a Sonata 3 both of them were unusable in my system. Music Direct was unable to offer any advice which might mitigate the hum, including different cables, different grounding, even different preamp ...
Decent backup cartridge
Hana EH = you can skip the pre-preamp and just go right into the MM input. Still a Hana, still MC. Grados and VPIs often have serious unsolvable hum issues.
Magnepan 1.7i vs 2.7i?
@audioman58 "The Maggie big problem  the connectors and crossover parts are Terrible" What exactly are terrible about the stock parts, and what are the improvements?
Magnepan 1.7i vs 2.7i?
"If the shoe fits, wear it." In this case the shoes are Magnepans and the foot they have to fit is your room. More than any direct radiator except big horns, Magnepans are are best chosen for, or maybe fitted to, the room size they are used in. it...
Your first concert was to see who and when?
Ray Charles, September 1976, Bohler Gym, WSU Pullman, WA. I was 13 and went with two girls who were best friends, one white, one black. And did we get a lot of looks. I truly didn't understand why. It was an incredible show. I had never heard or s...
Speaker choice
If you can locate the speakers out in the room 3ft or more from the back wall, a 2X8" 3-way tower would work. If you have to place them closer to the rear walls, id consider a 2X6" 3-way design. I prefer dual ports for tunability via port-plugs, a...
