Wanting to upgrade my streaming sound quality.
@gphill if you have settled on that shortlist, my advice is to go and look at the app used to control them. With streaming, the app is your hands-on experience with the unit; imagine if your turntable was horribly fiddly to use and didn’t react to...
Just updated my virtual system
Great, I’m at the first phase of adding traps and that won’t be for a while as, similarly, I’ve had a large outlay on system upgrades. So I’ll stick to soffits and add first reflection points as well.

Thanks @erik_squires I have read the blog and it’s very informative. I’d be really interested in reading your update when you get the tri-traps in, this kind of first hand experience from people who know what they’re doing is invaluable.
Just updated my virtual system
@erik_squires i have been planning to purchase the soffit bass traps for the front wall only, I don’t have space in the corners of the rear wall. I was planning on the soffit as from everything I’ve read and been told, to really help with bass the...
What is it I'm failing to grasp?
@baylinor that work looks incredible, that’s a seriously dedicated room which I bet sounds amazing.
What is it I'm failing to grasp?
@rifraf4u you’ve got the wrong site, this isn’t the place to be soliciting.

Different styles of music and recordings, some of which we don’t want to listen to for 24 hours. Put on AC/DC Live and you’ll enjoy the album and be satisfied when it’s finished. My system gave me all the energy and volume I could have wanted at t...
Suggestions for a streamer only (I have a great DAC)
When I was in your position looking for a streamer to change up from using my laptop, the biggest thing aside from sound quality was the user interface. As I had to have it connected over wifi that reduced the list of components I could look at. I...
Recommendations for home audio setup with Mac and NAS
I own a streamer, not the bluesound node. However, reading through your questions just made me feel like why go through all this when you could buy a bluesound node, used if you wanted to further reduce the costs, and it comes ready to do everythi...
48kHz vs 96kHz: audible?
I have found similar situations but with streaming from Qobuz. I regularly go in search of new music and pay no attention to the sample rate when selecting songs. Many times I’ll be listening and the difference in how smooth the tones are makes me...
Your method for discovering great music.
Searching for new music is my favourite thing to do with streaming. With a good app (I use Auralic Lightning DS) it becomes a journey from one artist which has recommendations of similar and down the rabbit hole you go. I find with the huge amount...
Affordable vs. ultra expensive speakers - what's the difference?
@jbhiller i couldn’t agree with you more, each upgrade makes me believe I can now reach the next echelon of component, something I never thought I’d get to 10 years ago. The same goes for the spending habits people have that are socially understoo...
High End Intergraded comparisons, Marantz, McIntosh, Levinson, Luxman....
@curiousjim love this, thanks for sharing. I love the tone of the speakers, but the amp is so good that I was hoping it was the speakers that lacked the aggression. In the future it’s an upgrade to the speakers I can now look forward to auditionin...
High End Intergraded comparisons, Marantz, McIntosh, Levinson, Luxman....
I own the Hegel H390 and do love it, however I can’t say it’s perfect. It gives me probably 93% of what I’m looking for, specific I know. I wasn’t able to demo it against much, only the Michi X3 and for me it was better sounding. It has a very smo...
Underpowered?
@james633 totally agree about his reviews, you just have to look at how he raves about the Auralic Altair G1 as the best streamer available which is a paid review. Nothing against Auralic, I own the ARIES G2.1 and love it, but the minute you put a...
