Is there a stereo receiver good sound compact size
Not a receiver. Yamaha, Denon, and Onkyo make some of the better minisystems. Beyond that, I'd look at Parasound's 'Z' line.
$1 a foot cable: 10awg no-name or 14awg brand?
10-gauge, though 12 should suffice for less than 50 feet. BTW, a buck a foot is a rip-off.

Maybe his is not sound theory, indeed. Jitter only matters if the DAC can't reclock the digital stream properly. Most DACs can. And as Shadorne says, jitter gets more attention than it deserves. It's just another form of distortion, and if it's lo...
Can a high end sound from mid-level gear?
Three factors dominate soundstage:1) the recording 2) the speakers3) interaction between the speakers and the roomOf these, the speakers themselves are probably the least important. You have a much better shot at good imaging/soundstage with medio...
First Experience w/ Airport Express to HIFI
If you are using the AE's digital out to a DAC (freestanding or part of another component, like your Quad), then jitter within the AE is irrelevant. It's just passing a digital signal through, which your DAC has to reclock. Any decent DAC will do ...
DIY cables Vs Mass market cables.
Robm: I can almost guarantee you two things:1) DIY cables will not sound as good to you as the ones you have now.2) We could secretly swap DIYs for your current cables, and you'd never know the difference. And, no, those two statements are not cont...
"Streaming Audio' vs. HDRadio
The determining factor is not just bitrate. It's also the choice of codec. 48kbps AAC+ will sound significantly better than 64kbps MP3. XM, I believe, uses the former. All things being equal, of course, more bits is better. And I'd certainly expect...
"Streaming Audio' vs. HDRadio
HD radio is pretty much brand new. That's why there are so few receivers. Of course, it may not catch on. We'll have to see.Streaming audio, HD radio, and satellite radio are all compressed. Their relative quality depends on how compressed they ar...

There is no intellectual property here. You buy some cable from Belden. You solder some spades on the end. That's the formula.

Lord only knows what "Alumiloy" is. It's just a trademark. (Which, if it were ever challenged, might have a hard time holding up, since it's also the name of a solder-like aluminum compound used in automotive repair, among other things.) But as Tr...
I am new to this so please be delicate with me...
Even Monster is probably overkill. Here's a guide to choosing cable:http://www.pcavtech.com/techtalk/wire_size/index.htm

Trust your background in electronics. The high-end cable game relies on the fact that most audiophiles don't have the background you do.

Hey, use whatever you like. (And, in particular, use what you already have.) Bare wire connections are fine in most cases. I have non-standard terminals on both my speakers and amp, so bananas work best for me.

You can have oxidation inside cables, if oxygen gets in there. (Duh.) The solution is to buy decent cabling. I use the Belden cable sold by Blue Jeans Cable Co., and it is really fine stuff, starting at <40 cents/ft. Throw in some banana plugs ...
