tube pre amp and Krell FPB 600 I leave my SS amps on continuously per the manufacturer's instructions and get a thump through the speakers when I turn my tube pre-amp off. This is normal according to the manufacturer. There is some woofer excursion but not as great as it is whe...
EH 6922 for BAT VK50? I recently purchased some Telefunken E88CC (6922 variant) from Upscale Audio to put in my Symphonic Line pre-amp. My review of them on the Upscale site is here (second review, dated Oct. 10, 2014):http://www.upscaleaudio.com/telefunken-e88cc-6922/...
Avalon Indra vs Sonus Faber Cremona M Just have to point out that by describing them as "2 completely different sounds" you just DID compare them HELLO!!
YG Acoustics Hailey 1.2 "If you look at Revel Salon2 measurement in comparison to the S5 ( Both on Soundstage), you can see how much better the S5 is, in particular the THD measurements."In some areas the S5 wins, in some (off-axis dispersion, linearity) the Salon2 comes...
Krell Duo 300 compared to Evo 302e or 402e? I don't know how a 20 amp circuit would work. My monos are on separate dedicated 30 amp 240V circuits. I'm also guessing that an amplifier's peak output is based in part upon the capacitors' ability to store electrical energy, but I am no electric...
How loud is loud? My remarks were based upon where I sit, approx. 10' from the speakers. I assumed the other remarks were based on seating position as well, but a good question to ask!
Krell Duo 300 compared to Evo 302e or 402e? I have the same speakers. Salon 2s are absolute current pigs and your amp is pretty light in that department with only 17 amps peak output, so I'm not surprised it heats up enough for the fans to come on when you are cranking the tunes. By way of ...
How loud is loud? 100dB is as loud as it gets for me on most days. Occasionally I'll go for louder, but just because my system will hit 118dB peaks at my listening position before clipping doesn't mean I want to go there all the time!
Taking the Lampizator Big 6 to the Next Level "The DAC shootout thread on A'gon has covered many DAC's with some great reporting. The B6 was dismissed early on without trying other tube combinations. To dismiss a tube product because of its sound with stock tubes is blasphemy."While I agree t...

Another CD-Player vs. PC question: No skipping at all with my Ayre C-5xeMP (which does play DVD-A and audio tracks from video DVDs). And it's my sole source, so obviously I don't find typical CD playback to be bland or boring!
Your most disappointing purchase or audition? I heard a pair of Legacy Focus SE a few years back when I was checking out various brands for speakers. I thought they sounded OK, until I stood up from the listening chair and the tweeters disappeared. Sat back down and there they were again. The...
Plinus vs. Burmester amps I used a Plinius SB-301 stereo amp for a year. It was a powerhouse that produced very strong bass and very good dynamics. It sounded just slightly rolled off on top and was not the last word in transparency, so a little bit tilted toward the "musi...
Stillpoints and reference-level speakers That's just guys posting stuff on the internet. You could say the same thing about Tbg, Charles1dad, Agear, Roxy54 and others on this thread, and you'd be right about that. The difference is they actually used the products being discussed before th...
Stillpoints and reference-level speakers What Roxy54 said. Lots of suppositions and oddball comparisons. For example, I don't think stereo owners who use spikes under their stationary gear do so for remotely the same reasons Usain Bolt uses them to sprint down a track lane. |
