is there anyone that modifies audible illusions?
"Will gold lions hold up to the high gain of the ai ? Iirc the 2 series was even harder on tubes than the later 3."Check with McShane. He is a straight shooter who won't tell you what he thinks you want to hear just to make a sale.
$10-15k speaker - Revel Salon2 / Usher BE-20
You haven't told us about your room. Dimensions and materials can make a huge difference - for example, a large "detailed" speaker with a slightly hot treble might sound great in a well-damped man cave, but could be a lousy choice in a small room ...
is there anyone that modifies audible illusions?
"i am running a set of 6922 type3 from upscale audio. i was recommended to step down to the type2."I would try some Gold Lion 6922s from Jim McShane. They are fairly warm and should take some bite off the top end. And certainly a lot cheaper than ...
rockport Avior versus salon 2
I feel exactly the same way about my Salon 2s as Joe does about his Studio 2s. I'd go even further than saying they do nothing wrong and say they do a lot of things just right. Haven't heard the Aviors (although I'd like to), but let's not forget ...
Speakers that sound like Usher Be-20s/10s
I found the Plinius SB-301 I had in my system to have reasonable control along with good macro-dynamics. And it was a bass monster - low but tight. Where it fell a little short compared to better - and usually quite a bit more expensive - amps was...

No more big power supplies for preamps
Just edited my system page to show my pre-amp power supply as the separate unit it truly is. Symphonic Line is still making their pre-amps with separate power supply units in 2013, and they remain brawny (although for some reason not quite as braw...

By "flat" I thought you meant non-dynamic. Do you mean something else?
Speakers that sound like Usher Be-20s/10s
"The sound was too forward and flat due to the non musical PLINIUS system."You do realize that the Plinius amps you say you heard provide peak current of 50 amps (as opposed to the Music Culture's 20 amps)?
Revel Salon 3?
"They should have something in the next year or two I would think as the 2's have been around since 2008."There was about a ten-year gap between the first Salon in 1998 and the 2 in 2008. They remain reference gear for quite a few reviewers, so un...
5 best selling newish speaker brands in 2013?
Speaker backs towards glass wall means look for something* downward ported.*as opposed to someone downward ported, although as a bachelor maybe you're not especially choosey in that regard...
Avalon Indra, Eidolon, Opus comparison
The OP has a Gryphon. No need to change his amp.
Amp with best bass control
Ardent competitive fanboy postings notwithstanding, with the Raidho D-3's impedance rating at 4 ohms I'd be looking for enough current to weld automobile frames. Or at least something like 100 amps peak current.
Speakers that do pianos really well
"Anyone have experience with Salon 2's and piano?"I do. If you feed them properly with fast, high current amplification and good sources, you will hear piano that has a sharp clean attack when the hammer strikes the string, pleasing sustain and ac...
Rockport Atria?
The one speaker brand I wish I'd auditioned before buying Salon 2s a couple years ago is Rockport - although from what the article says about the Salon 2 being preferable to the Atria in larger rooms it sounds like I'd have to move up to the Avior...
