Passive Preamps w/ Transformer Volume Control
Passive linestages can be very good if the rest of your system is up to the task. And a well designed TVC is the best of this breed. First, you must determine your amp input sensitivity and voltage gain, speaker sensitivity, source output impedenc...
Watt / Puppy without the crossover
Sounds like a recipe for disaster, IMHO.....Oz
Vandersteen 3a sig vs. Paradigm studio 100
Do we think it is a step forward or back? Well that depends on which one you currently own. And you don't even give a clue as to which that is.....Oz
Conrad Johnson MV60
I have had my Premier 140 for about 4 months now, totally reliable and sounds great. A buddy has had the MV60SE for a few years. Also reliable and another great sounding amp. Neither of these has the typical old cj sound. They won't let you forget...
the smoothest sounding speaker
Aeriel 7Bs and Silverline Sonata IIs. I have owned them both, and didn't care for either of them. The Sonatas had a midrange coloration and the Aeriels sounded tight and closed in. Both average, but not exceptional speakers.Oz
the smoothest sounding speaker
If you are using the components described in your system, don't blame the speakers. You need to look elsewhere if you are experiencing listener fatigue, mainly your source and amplification.Oz
Magico mini 2 versus Magico mini 1
Tarsando was having fun with you guys. Tongue in cheek, get it?Oz
Members with No Feedback
I have only had one transaction with a newbie with zero feedback, and this was for a relatively expensive pair of speakers that I sold to him. But I only got that warm fuzzy after a good long phone conversation. He turned out to be a very nice guy...
Brass door knobs as footers
Those parts express footers are absolutely worthless if the adjustability factor is important to you. The only way they will sound decent is if you loctite the tip to the body of the cone. If it ever backs off at all, the sound deteriorates notice...
Unhappy with tubes so which transistor amp?
If your Aragon amplifiers sound better than the ARC, the latter is broken. As for the digital glare "creeping back into the system", you should probably look elsewhere for the culprit.I can understand that tubes might not be your cup of tea for pr...
$40.000 speaker advise. Check out my list
>Why is the Montana KAS not on your list ?<Peter, good question. I haven't heard the KAS, but am a big fan of your work, currently owning the EPS2. If I were in the market for a super speaker, these would surely be the absolute first ones I ...
Poll - Active vs. Passive preamp
I am firmly on the fence on this one. I am a former TVC owner and have sung it's praises here. And in the right system (especially with the right amp) it is indeed hard to beat. But after upgrading to a CJ Premier 140 I realized that it was not "p...
Vandersteen Quatro
>Of course not any full range speaker will optimise's and sound best out from the wall to preference<Translation, please?Oz
Vandersteen Quatro
They might be more user friendly and tunable for different rooms. But to think they will perform optimally in a small room is just wishful thinking. And you might have gotten them to sound fairly good 4 inches from the wall, but I would hardly cal...
Vandersteen Quatro
If a 12" wide speaker is too much for your room, I don't see how you are going to make full range speakers like Quatros or Mozart Grands work. You must have a pretty small listening room.Oz
