Best player for Spotify
Like mortsnet, I use an RPI to stream running Volumio. I have mine in a squueezbox type of setup with a nice case and touchscreen, using a HIFIBERRY hat for the dac. All in I am under $150 and I believe it sounds great. I use an audioquest red in ...
Whats playing on your system today?
I pulled out two cds I hadn't listened to in years- BEE GEES ONE and America- History.  Realize that some may scoff, but One is an amazingly listenable album.  Those harmonies are truly relaxing. Grand daughter and wife danced the entire CD. Gener...
2020 quest for stereo amp with DAC for about 1000 USD
I own a Vincent SV500. It is my main amp in a vacation home. I run it through modified Klipsch Quartets. These are highly efficient but can be edgy. Between  the mods and the Vincent the edginess disappears. I don’t recall the DAC specs but runnin...
Been away for a while, need some help
Agreed on the streaming. I still play CD's regularly and probably prefer it. I also listen to Tidal. I buy what I love, but Tidal opens new avenues.

Mlsstl,I don't want to hi-jack the thread, but curious which RPI you use and what OS. I have an RPI4 W/HifiBerry DSP +DAC running Volumio.  I am contemplating a ZERO with an Allo miniboss for a camper and while Volumio works great, curious about o...
Newbie to the awesome audiophile world
This can be daunting, and AGON members have all sorts of budgets and incredible passion (meaning many will stretch their budget to get the next better thing). Not a bad thing, but can be confusing for the newcomer. I believe it wise to think about...

It may also be possible to just use a rpi to stream to your Sony. I don’t recall if yours has a digital in. BTW....don't ditch your CD player immediately.I still enjoy mine very much and will most likely keep it.

JM,I was in your exact spot not long ago- ironically I also have a Sony ES combo player. If you are a DIYer, try a raspberry pi with an Allo or Hifiberry DAC hat. I use Volumio as the software- small subscription fee required, and am very pleased....
CD/Streaming System for Class A RV
EffischerHad our first outing. RV had sat a few years so lots of little issues- some water leaks, but with a screw driver most are resolved. Had a ball. Cant wait to go again. Solution to audio- iphone stream from Tidal through an audioquest drago...
A challenge to the "measurement" camp
Shelter in place has not resulted in much self reflection based on this thread. The isolation appears to have divided “them or us” to an even greater extent. If the topic becomes really important, I wonder if we should even attempt to communicate?
Too good a post to waste
I didn't intend to gaslight this thread, only point out as Uber did a few posts ago that there is room for both positions and Almargs post left the door open for both sides to claim victory.
Too good a post to waste
MC"Can" means might, may, could. "Can" does not mean "does".  Thus everything that follows is at best probability and imagination.“While I have no knowledge of whether Almarg is a genius or a shill other than reading the quality of his posts and d...
Wow an old album that rocked your world
Today I had Tidal streaming Steely Dan "A Decade of Steely Dan". I was somewhat ambivalent when they were popular, but today they sounded amazing playing through my Vandersteen's. May be that I am different today than 30 years ago when I originall...
Budget streaming amp
Have you looked at any of the Raspberry Pi options? They have a variety of RPI based amps that could convert any speakers inexpensively.
Scam or awesome deal
Agreed on the likelihood of a scam, other than the fact it was deleted next day. I would assume the scammers leave things up for as long as possible. Either way, I didn’t need the extra stuff so it Is my hope someone that did scored some decent eq...
