Considering moving on from B&W...
My advice is to have a long auditioning session.  Here's my rationale B&Ws were something I once aspired to buy and I listened to PSB and eventually Sonus faber - I went with Sonus faber. And there's some many excellent speakers I think it's...
New Simaudio Moon Voice 22 Speakers
I'm intrigued by the new speakers and view it as an alternative for a truly high end complete system that competes with Linn Audio (minus the analog portion of course). I'm curious how they compare to other $3k book shelf speakers by companies li...
Cable curmudgeon
It's your opinion and your enjoying your music...I think that's awesome. Your preferences and experiences are different than mine and we both have the same goal - enjoying music!
Audiophile Speakers for Rock, HipHop and Techno
Not sure about optimizing speaker for music genres. My focus has been about how it performs in imaging, detail and dynamics based on music I personally enjoy.    Every speaker has a compromise or character- the trick is finding a pleasant one. I ...
Looking for a change.
I agree with ghdprentice My rationale is there's numerous interconnects and power cords (I have 3 power cords, 2 sets of interconnects) and they effectively erode the budget of truly upgrading source, amps or speakers.   The difference in upgrad...
Best XLRs under $500 a pair
My approach was buying used XLRs from Kimber Kable via KimberKabledirect on eBay. I tried the Kimber silver streak versus some Mogami and better cable silver serpent and the Kimber's were noticeably better and also about 4 times the price.   So ...
Naim Unity Atom with Focal 826W Chorus 30th anniversary edition
I've used Rocket 33s for years - last year I decided to re-evaluate and tested against Blue Jean Cables and Kimber Kable (note could have just as easily been Transparent or other Audioquest but I didn't expect a big difference so I kept my compari...
Looking for a change.
@chasda take advantage of the opportunity to demo and listen to as many different manufacturers as possible. My journey in audio has taken multiple steps and a Yamaha receiver was a significant step up during my journey. What I've learned in my ...
Fed rate increase = lower hifi prices?
I'm not sure if the rate increases will drastically impact the Cost of Goods Sold. There have been some specific triggers to increased Cost of Goods Sold over the last 24 months or so: Supply is less than demand in the logistics area resulting...
Moon AKA Simaudio announces new line of speakers.
Interesting introduction - seems Moon is looking to be able to provide a total solution with speakers like Linn and Rega are able to do... I think it's an uphill battle except for someone looking at the ACE.  I'm a fan of Moon electronics and wou...
Is a separate phono pre really necessary?
@samuel I would also consider upgrading to the P8 and keep your current cartridge - the improved table and tone arm will be significant.  Then you can upgrade the cartridge and phono stage in the future.
Amp Search and Upgrade
@dadork I've upgraded from an integrated amp into separates starting with the preamp - it made a big difference.  What are you looking to accomplish with the new equipment - improve resolution, dynamics, power, etc. If I was looking to improve th...
Upgrade path question with $2k to spend
What do you feel is the 'weak link' in your system based on how you use it? Upgrading the Rega P6 will be a significant upgrade - my initial concern is you won't be able to realize the difference with the home theatre receiver.  The change in mat...
best amp for a Maggy 1.7i
My friend used a NAD integrated amp and I am impressed with the sound per dollar of his system.  I recognize that an improve from end can let Maggies shine; I disagree NAD isn’t a nice match at the Op’s budget
Dust cover up or down?
Owning a Rega P8 takes this decision away. Dust cover on when not in use Dust cover off when in use Prior turntables I took the dust cover off because my older brother told me to.
