Great amp, crashed and burned after 30 hours... Buyer protection?
When buying used over the internet there are no fail safe ways to guarantee that you won't ever get scammed.  The risk comes with the territory.  Use caution and common sense.
New DAC?
Save for the Bricasti.  Half-measures are a bad compromise and you'll still be wanting more.
This is what the typical consumer group considers the 5 best turntables
It's called the "real world".  That's a place where people spend sensible amounts of money on music equipment.  Perfectionist don't understand. The Audio-Technica is an updated Technics 1200.
Why do almost all women today hate home audio?
The OP speaks uninformed nonsense.Geoff, great comment.
Digital Formats
Yes. Higher sample and bit rates when used throughout the recording/manufacturing chain will produce more accurate sound reproduction.
DAC connection preferred?
It depends upon how the I/O is implemented. What works best for one combo might not be best in a different setup.
No cartridge is good enough.
Inna, modern cartridges do an excellent job of tracing vinyl grooves. Do you have an evidence that this is not true? If you use a laser based retrieval system you'll most likely digitize the audio signal, which as pointed out by someone else raise...

Your premise (the thread's title) is faulty as is your logic about using a laser. A rock at the end of a stick is extremely effective at tracing the grooves on a semi-solid slab of processed decomposed organic matter.

Room Treatment for a
My primary listening room is as you describe. With a variety of different loudspeakers (dipoles, horns, front radiating and omnis) the room has required very little acoustic treatment. Just using some old Micheal Green corner tunes behind the loud...
What vintage speaker might you use today
I'm not sure exactly what the definition of "vintage" is, but none of my loudspeakers are of very recent vintage. My loudspeakers include Apogee Calipers, New Large Advents, Spendor 9/1, EPI 202 and Monitor Audio Studio 20s.I have only used the Ca...

My previous comment was intended to point out that the Sennheisers simply represent the world we live in. Personally I think the items I listed are somewhat ridiculous and that there are better uses for society's limited resources. Apparently the ...
why do people feel the need to buy expensive cable
Mitch2, excellent point. It's something I don't think most audiophiles can deal with. The latest "Stereophile" has Micheal Fremer describing his experience with some of the better/best Tara cables. It seems their top model had to be re-engineered b...

We live in a country where $100,000,000+ homes are not uncommon, where there are production cars priced at $1,400,000 and there are a half dozen watches that are more expensive than that car. Why should the price of these headphones raise eyebrows...
I find this so strange
Sounds like a good move to me. The company seems to be in the hands of audio people, not investors. The McIntosh brand has the highest public profile in their stable, so why not try to leverage it. I hope they succeed.
