Lightning Protection Thanks for the advice and comments. As a practical matter unplugging the equipment won't always be effective. I live in a part of the country where thunderstorms are quite common. Realistically, I'm not going to constantly plug and unplug my elect...
Difference between 24/96 and 24/192 Just to make sure there's no confusing the issue - even the Pioneer players will only output a 16/44.1 signal thru their digital outputs when playing a standard redbook CD.
Difference between 24/96 and 24/192 Tbadder, if you're using them as transports you are not accessing their internals D/A converters and the digital data stream is unmodified. If you play a regular CD, either player will output the standard 16/44.1 data to an external DAC.
Difference between 24/96 and 24/192 I believe that either the Sony or the JVC when used as a transport will only output a 16/44.1 signal. The 96 vs. 192 issue is moot. If the players sound different, then it's due to the issues mention by Sdcampbell.
How do you get Good Sound from a PC ? For soundcards I would recommend the RME 96 Series ($650) or the Lynx Two ($1,000). Each is a high quality, pro oriented card with high quality converters. If you seek even higher quality then consider adding an outboard A/D/A converter, the Apoge...

What is the best DB level to Sean, as always a most illuminating post. I listen to a wide variety of music and in a 33 by 14 room the typical listening levels are in the 70-80dB range. The music is loud enough to impede normal conversation. Even when cranking up the volume I ...
Try this simple DIY interconnect cable. Great post! Does it make a difference that the signal and ground wires are different lenghts?
What is the best DB level to Get yourself a SPL meter. It's the essential audiophile accessory. First use it to balance your HT system. Then use it to spot check your typical listening levels. Your personal preferences will come heavily into play. Personally, I find 85dB at t...
to cut or not to cut: help A great musicians knows when NOT to play a note. Silence can speak volumes. A great thespian knows when NOT to act. There's real power in a correctly used dramatic pause. Does a great audiophile know when to leave well enough alone?
Opinions on the Bose 901 In the early 80s I owned a pair of Bose 901s (I think they were IIIs) and they were great. They went loud, were unbreakable and made your typical rock record sound real ballsy. Tonal truthfulness, soundstaging, imaging, low level dynamics, transpa...
powered speakers recommendations? Check out the JBL LSR series. The smallest model in the lineup, the 25(?) may be appropriate.
Beyond SACD with Redbook: Price No Object After reading several posts on this subject I've concluded that those people who believe that 16 bit/44.1kHz digital can be made (via HDCD, XRCD, Superbit, re/up/oversampling or other technologies) better sounding than hi rez digital (24 bit/88.2k...
Anybody Tried this Room Correction Program? The obligatory disclaimer: I have no financial interest in sincaudio. All I know about their product is the info contained in their website. If you think about it the TACT really is just a dedicated computer, customized software and a few pieces of...
Horrific Confession And Puzzling Questions When vinyl was the primary format a record ran from 40 to 50 minutes. A typical CD now runs 65 minutes. In the pop/rock arena this translates to more mediocre music per disc. Realistically, how many pop/rock CDs are worth listening from start to f... |
