Best blues guitarist, Clapton or Green Voodoochile, who said anything about age? I was referring to their individual guitar styles. To call Clapton "watered down" is an extreme statement. "Have You Heard" the Mayall/Clapton Beano album?
Best blues guitarist, Clapton or Green Voodoochile, the people you lump together as old school cover a huge range. I would argue that the leap from Robert Johnson to Albert King is far greater than that from Albert/B.B. to Eric Clapton. For the vast majority of his long career EC is cl...
Amp for use w/ REL Stentor III? If the Stentor only has a mono line level input, then can't you use a "Y" adaptor?
Jeff Rowland Concentra VS Krell KAV300i??????? The Concentra is a better overall performing amp (it's capable of letting more of the music through) than the Krell, however, either amp will work very well the Amator. It's very much a matter of personal preference. I have a Concentra, but a frie...
Amp for use w/ REL Stentor III? Use the line level inputs on the Stentor, it's not optimal, but it will work quite well. If after awhile you're happy with the single Stentor, a dual Stentor setup will be a worthwhile step up.
What's My Problem? Before rushing off and spending money by changing amps, I strongly recommend you examine your room setup. The Rotel is a reasonably decent amp and the NHTs are not that power hungry. In an unsympathetic room the NHTs can tend towards harshness.
And what do Maggies sound like near a wall...... The smaller Maggie models are fairly light weight and easily moved. Is it possible for you to move them to an optimal position when you want to listen and then "store" them when they are not in use?
Why is Double Blind Testing Controversial? Banning topics such as this is a very bad idea. Despite limited regressions into philosophy and politics Audiogon has consistently shown that intelligent and polite dialog regarding audio is possible.
Why is Double Blind Testing Controversial? A true double blind test wouldn't be easy to set up, but as a scientific experiment it really isn't very hard. As far as interpreting the results of an experiment goes, I don't think you can design an experiment that isn't open to misinterpretatio...
Overtubing? Danger? If you're trying to replicate the sound of an old console stereo, then tubes are necessary. As such I doubt you could have too many. I'd also recommend an underdamped ported speaker with a rolled off treble. The console sound can be very pleasant,...
Why is Double Blind Testing Controversial? Sean, I always thought one of the key features of a true DBT is that the subject does not know the nature of variable element. When applied to audio the listener should not know what to listen for.I find it interesting that both sides of this issu...
music , mind , thought and emotion An interesting article on the subject:http://abcnews.go.com/sections/scitech/DailyNews/brainmusic021213.html
music , mind , thought and emotion I read once that motorcycle racers engaged in a 24 race actually found it easier to race during the night. Their lap times went down during the dark hours. One racer commented that in the dark you are forced to focus on the area illuminated by the...
music , mind , thought and emotion I think of the mind as a pattern recognition/recall device. External sensory stimulation is filtered, manipulated, discarded and/or saved. Music is not the air fluctuation picked up by our senses, but instead is the patterns constructed within our...
Hendrix blues STOP PICKING ON MR. GUY! He's my main man. Jimi had numerous musical influences (Otis Rush, Guitar Slim, Curtis Mayfield, Hubert Sumlin, etc.), but it's very clear, at least to my ears, that Buddy Guy was one of them. In turn, Hendrix then influen... |
