Go get out your pitchforks, I’ve done a sacrilegious thing. . .
@last_lemming forgive my lame attempt at humor.  I did not realize trying tone controls was so effing serious. Why didn't you get the MAX?

On another forum I read that attaching pennies to the knobs helps stabilize the soundstage.  There was a heated debate of BluTack vs. Gorilla Glue.
Billie or Ella? Maria or Renata? Technique or feeling?
There's bop, bip bop, bebop, rebop, hard bop, post bop, Cowboy BeBop and even BeBop Deluxe.  What does it ll mean except that it's all music. As the great trumpeter said, “I'll play it first and tell you what it is later.”

Feeling vs. techniques -- a false distinction.  Both woman were sublime in their own particular way.
Do Recording Studios Use Silver Cables
In the pro world there is some acknowledgement that cables can sound slightly different, but by far the most important quality of a cable is that it is wired correctly and works.  They are tools in the music production arsenal.
Are all dBs created equal?
The spectral content of music can effect subjective loudness.  Research Fletcher Munson curves.  But I'm not sure this explains what the OP is experiencing.

Uneven room dimensions/reflections = uneven toe in as solution?
Does your system have a balance control?
SPL Stereo Vitalizer Mk2-T (tube) a beast of a loudness control at $1295
A link to a Sound On Sound review. The SPL Vitalizer is a piece of pro audio equipment that at heart is an dynamic equalizer.  Describing it makes it more complicated than it really is.  In fact, it's fairly simple to use and it can definitely ma...
Getting good sound quality below 200Hz
Not sure bass should sound impressive as opposed to natural.  Also depending on the instrument much of the definition and possible impact are conveyed by the harmonics reaching into the midrange frequencies.
Price Isn't Always Indicitive of Quality or Performance
First it was a phenomenal upgrade, then a major upgrade and finally the new cable DE-MOL-ISHED the old cable.  I nominate OBLITERATE as your next upgrade descriptor.
low bass response
You want in room frequency response.  Measure at the listening position and at various other places in the room.  You can use 1 meter directly in front of the woofer as a baseline measurement. The big furniture probably does not effect bass respo...
