Amp's to mate with Martin Logan Prodigy speaker's
I have a pair of Odysseys and drive them with Jeff Rowland amps (passively bi-amped with Concentra and 112). I've heard others say that high powered tubes can work wonders, but others have cautioned me that solid state is the only way to go with t...
Question About Low Frequency Sounds
Here's a link to a story on the BBC website about research regarding infrasonics and church organs. It concludes that low frequency sounds from church organs are responsible for a wide range of emotional responses that people may feel at religious...
Upgrade Path: CDP or Preamp
I have your CD player in my bedroom system and it's a fairly good product. Changing it won't result in any major improvement in your system. As a matter of fact, your system is very well balanced with no glaring weak link. You really would be bett...

Clueless, simplify your life, go commando style.
Rediscovering the Joy of Digital?
It's very hard and probably misleading to make comparisons between CD, SACD and vinyl versions of the same music. Mastering engineers commonly tweak with EQ and compression/limiting to better match the strenghts of each medium. It's virtually impo...
Is heavy vinyl worth it?
On page 146 of issue 24 of HiFi+ there's a record review in which the reviewer states:"Old Decca engineers have down the years been at pains to explain to me that the optimum vinyl weight is anywhere between 140g and 160g. Above this and the vinyl...
Listening to ALL your music
I had the same problem a few years ago and inadvertently stumbled across a wonderful solution. I ended up transferring all my digital and about half of my analog collection into an Apple Mac computer using iTunes as the interface. I have any numbe...
Is heavy vinyl worth it?
The quality of the vinyl is usually better which results in lower surface noise and less pops and clicks, but it only really makes sense to consistently go 180gm and greater if you're willing to adjust your VTA (and other settings) on your tonearm.
something is wrong here, but what is it?
I agreed with everybody's comments about insufficient preamp gain for the cartridge, but I don't get the connection with his problems with the power tubes. Has a tube also gone bad?
Jeff Rowland - No Exposure?
JRDG is a pretty high profile manufacturer who gets plenty of press and respect. No they're not reviewed as much as Musical Fidelity, but then again, who is?
How do I capture good fm stereo to cd? or digital?
DAT, CD-R or minidisc would all be fine. As far as signal enhancements go, radio stations need to put out the hottest signal they can to maximize their listening area. As a result all talk and pop oriented stations heavily compress their audio. It...
Question About Low Frequency Sounds
Thanks for all the intelligent responses. Here's a link to the site where I found the info. Someone named "MusicMedicine" is the main contributor.I've experienced nausea when exposed to low frequency sounds, so I have an inkling about how powerful...
Question About Low Frequency Sounds
2001impala, besides being offensive your comments are wrong. Rap music's bass is concentrated in the 60Hz to 120Hz region. Know what your talking about before you start typing!
Converting MP3s to AIFF files
When a 16bit/44.1MHz (redbook) signal is compressed to one of the MP3 formats information is thrown away. It cannot be recovered by converting the file format back to AIFF or WAV.
Anyone know who is making Integra Reseach gear?
Integra is made by Onkyo with design help from BAT.
