Should audiophiles be disappointed?...
The proper use of acoustic treatments can only add to the reproduction capabilities of a set of loudspeakers. Their use can result in smoother bass, tighter imaging and a better defined soundstage. It's not a defect in a speaker design that acoust...
Two R&B finds.....
I became a fan of Les Nubians in 2003. Both of their albums are highly recommended. For those not familiar with the duo, they sound like a more hip/hop version of Sade.
What is the standard for judging a systems sound?
You're right, not all studios are created equal and some studios are without question better than others. But I'm referring to mastering studios and the reality is that the majority of commercial releases are mastered at a small number of studios ...
How do I replace an outlet?
Audire, have you read the above responses or are you just not getting the message? When dealing with electricity, if you don't know what you're doing, then get someone who does.
Who's the Cadillac of Hi-End Audio?
Interesting points raised by Mrmb. I think the failure of GM/Ford/Chrysler wasn't in the engineering, but instead was a fault endemic to their entire corporate structure(s). When Toyota first started the Lexus brand they imported dozens of Mercede...
What is the standard for judging a systems sound?
Zaikesman, I'm not sure how anyone would ascertain which system is superior, but I have laid out a workable method for determining whether your system accurately reproduces what is on any disc. Namely, go listen to the music in the studio where it...
Who's the Cadillac of Hi-End Audio?
I recently attended an auto show here in Indianapolis and Cadillac had some very nice products. The CTS and the Corvette based coupe (XLR?) appeared to be fully competitive with the best comparable priced Japanese or German offerings. So maybe, ju...
What is the standard for judging a systems sound?
Microphones don't hear sound the same way the human ear/brain does. Once the music enters the mic something, and a large something at that, is lost. It doesn't matter whether it's a purist, unprocessed recording or a 128 channel ProTools mega-extr...
What is the standard for judging a systems sound?
If the goal is attaining fidelity to the music as recorded, whether to vinyl, CD, tape, etc., then the only practical test is to compare the sound of your system to the sound of the final mix in the studio where the music was mix/mastered. That so...
What to upgrade next?
I think you're getting a lot of misleading advice. There is absolutely no reason to replace your cables, nor add fancy power cords or line conditioners. You already have a great system and assuming you've set it up properly, it's sound will not be...
Surprised by quality?
To some extent the best sounding recordings were made in the late 50s thru early 60s. It was the time of the classic tube recording equipment and by necessity engineers had to keep the recording process simple. They had at most 4 channels to work ...
What time do you wear?
Thanks for the responses to my question. I guess I've never been in a position where I really had to know the time closer than 15 minutes. Besides, there's clocks everywhere -- on the computer, TV/cable box, radio, PDA, car, etc. To each his own.
What time do you wear?
I mean this as a serious question. Why do people wear watches? I haven't worn one since 1982 so I'm kind of clueless as to why people strap them on their wrists. Do other people really need ready access to what time it is or is something else goin...
Power Cords Snake Oil ??
Maybe it's a semantic argument, but in a sense I agree with Nrchy that nothing is completely understood, but the current model of electro-magnetic behavior at non-relativistic speeds and non-absolute zero temps is quite comprehensive. As a scienti...
Power Cords Snake Oil ??
Clueless, I always wondered what they were doing out there behind the fences in Aurora. Wow, it's the world's largest power cord research facility!
