Pass Labs amp choice for CLS - What would you do?
"If the choice is between the X350.5 (MSRP $11K) and the XA100.5 (MSRP $16K), then what would you say?"XA100.5. But don't rule out the 60.5 or even the 30.5 especially if you don't play your music that loud and I'm guessing you don't with the CLS....
Review: Pass Labs XA60.5 monobloks Amplifier
Teajay, The reason I am curious is I am experimenting, in another system, with an active x/o driving 2 different amps driving my 2 way speakers. I love the active x/o way, it makes amps happy. No doubt a powerful amp for the bass and something swe...
Review: Pass Labs XA60.5 monobloks Amplifier
Congrats Teajay and nice review. I drive my 3.6's with their XA100.5's. They are my favorite amp on them. Are you at all interested in trying your 60.5's full range on your Maggies? If you ever do, I would be interested in how it sounds to you comp...
amplifier impedance
"Would one be more optimal than the other, or more "safe" for the amp or speakers?"When in doubt, in general, the 4 ohm would be the "safest" bet. If 6.5 is the minimum, you should be fine with the 8 and while you could use either, I think the 8 w...
Tube rolling 6922 tubes looking for transparency
I love 6922's and have tried many brands. I agree with Tvad and Tpsonic, the Amperex and Siemens are the best I've heard with Amperex being my favorite. You might get lucky and find a trio "reasonably priced" ones. If not, consider the big picture...
Mcintosh C220 vs CJ ET-2
Q1. They both are great. Quit believing everything a dealer tells you.Q2. One of them is better. Which, as you said, will depend....Your curiousa about what others think. I've had Mac's top preamps for several generations from the C28 thru the C20...
Monitors that use the Dynaudio Esotar Tweeter
Original Guarneri Homage, not the new Mememto.
Need preamp recommendation
You might get lucky with a used Pass XP-10. Do you feel lucky? Well, do you? Of course, jesting because of your system title.
Sota Sapphire with or without vacuum?
The sound is sweeter with the vacuumOnce you go vac, you'll never go back. :-)
SET with inefficient speakers
I don't know what the impedance "graph" of your Dali's is but if doesn't flucuate wildly and/or dip much below 4 ohms, you should be fine. I have run my Maggies with an 845 and 300b SET for kicks. Turned out pretty good within its limits.
Harbeth HL5 vs Magnepan 1.6qr Who wins??
>>Which speaker is the best overall performer?Depends on what "your" overall preferences are. For me, it has been the Maggies for the last 10 yrs. I haven't found another speaker that does the human voice so well, that is, until about a year...
Class A amplifiers - which are considered the best
I've always liked Nelson Pass's designs. He has been doing this for a long time. I have his latest XA30.5 and 100.5. They give me every indication they will last for decades. I have great respect for the Accuphase A50 also.
Suggestions for a new SACD player.
The Marantz SA15 series 2 has a digital in (Optical only). I like the sound of it on redbook. I'm new to SACD so I have no reference to compare that aspect of its performance but I like what I hear.
Anyone using "jumper" cables?
Karmatogdral, Re your OP, The jumpers transfer/conduct the signal to the other section of the x/o. Among the more common metals, silver is the best conductor then copper then somewhere down the line brass. Magnepan even uses steel. They all conduc...
Berning ZH-270 Replacement
I joined the Homage club a short while back. Usually you try to find the best amp to make your speaker sound its best. The GH's are unique to me in that they seem to make each amp sound its best. When they were delivered to my house I hooked them ...
