Integrated amp for my Sonus Faber Guarneri
The Mac 2200 is a fine tube pre, I owned one for years, and but I have a feeling the BAT might be the best in your case. Sounds like you have a shot at one. Another rec would be something in the CJ line. I'm using one of their ART's now with the G...
Vote for best US made solid state amp
I love tube amps, especially SET's, but I also have 2 of Nelson Pass's XA.5 SS amps and I like what they bring to the table. I enjoy them everytime I rotate them in. I also have an early Bedini 45/45 SS amp that has an ease to it. They would get m...
Integrated amp for my Sonus Faber Guarneri
Daveyf, good call on "Mememto or Homage" question. Deaf, what color are they? Red (maybe Graphite) or Brown? I've owned both at the same time and they are different.
Integrated amp for my Sonus Faber Guarneri
Hi Daveyf. Yes it would be "very" easy to overload a small room with sub. You would want to be very careful with the volume control. Less is more.I'm pretty happy with the G's just the way they are and usually don't use a sub with them but a few d...
Integrated amp for my Sonus Faber Guarneri
Deaf_in_left_eye...Fellow GH owner here. Like Lloydelee21 mentioned, try and get your hands on "ANY" subwoofer you can take home to try no matter how cheap or small (but do try for the best you can). I don't see how the G's are going to have the i...
Tube Single Ended Triode Questions??
I use a pair of SET Cary 805AE's to drive my Maggie 3.6's occasionally. Cary claims either 50 or 70 wpc, depending whether you use the 845 or 211 output tube (1 tube per channel, no paralleling). I do 90% of my listening at low to mid volume level...
Preamp Recommendations for Bedini 25/25
Just posted this for someone looking for a preamp for his Pass amps. I also have a Bedini 45/45 that have excellent synergy with the CJ pres."I started with their CT-5, then ACT 2.2 and now their ART 2 and 3. I haven't heard but feel confident in ...
Preamp to mate with Pass 30.5
I like Conrad Johnson tube preamps with my 30.5 and 100.5's. I started with their CT-5, then ACT 2.2 and now their ART 2 and 3. I haven't heard but feel confident in recommending their older Premiere 16 and 17 if budget is a concern. These are very...
Your feelings on vintage audio.
I got into Vintage about 6 years ago. At that time I wasn't sure if it was going to be a short term infatuation or long time love affair. So far, so good. I have not grown bored with it but I still have my modern system too. I use modern speakers ...
Mcintosh MC2102 vs Cary Audio CAD 120s
They are both nice. One thing I like about the Cary is it's ability to run the KT88's in UL or Triode mode at the touch of a button. You will lose half the power in the triode mode, you may gain something your ears really like.
Preamp to go with Pass Labs Rushmore Speaker
Kind of hard to be specific without knowing if he wants a more relaxed sound or a sharper one. Short of that, I'd recommend looking into some of Conrad Johnson's newer tube preamps. I am very happy with them driving my Pass amps.
High End Audio and Your hearing as you get older
>>> but wondering if when I'm 70, all this hi-fi stuff will sound the same as mid-fi stuff to a pair of old ears.<<<Maybe/maybe not. I'll still use the same formula I always have: If the sound draws me in (and I can afford it) I'...
Gainclone vs. Pure Class-A
Jedinite24, Another way to look at what Auxetophone pointed out is to consider an hourly vs yearly cost.My Pass monos draw 300 watts each. I pay a total of 13 cents for every 1000 watts I consume. So 600 watts (both monos together) cost me a littl...
balanced connection, better than single ended?
Phd, "maybe I missed something but now I'm not sure. But I still want to see for myself".That's the ticket. My ears are directly coupled to my pocketbook and by that I mean not going cheap, just getting some improvement for the money I spent and b...
balanced connection, better than single ended?
>>> I ask only because I'm recently buying an amp that has true balanced circuitry but now must find a preamp of the same.If you can find a "fully" balanced pre that you're happy with, that's great but I wouldn't limit myself to that only...
