This Sounds Like A Pretty Good Deal -- Opinions? The Macs will have a synergy of sound. ARC preamps in my experience will dig out a lot of low level detail, too much in my system. I'd buy the pair and sell the losing preamp. This assumes the amp can drive your speakers.
Class D with high efficiency speakers I would consider the PS Audio s300. I like the sound of the M700s on my ML electrostatics.
Network optimization for serious streamers nosualc commented that they didn't see why jitter would be a problem if the streamer is buffering. I would agree IF the DAC is inside the streamer and using the internal I2S bus. If you are using a separate DAC, particularly with AES/SPDIF, then j...
Interesting situation! Do we need this.... Reviews are interesting but always carry the biases of the reviewer. Use you ears first and foremost. As noted, it can save you a lot of money.
Are cables additive or subtractive? I think additive or subtractive is too simple. All cables are basically R-L-C networks that have different ways of distorting the signal waveform. Additive or subtractive depends on what you want to hear from your system. If the highs seem down or...
Is there anything better than live recordings? Live is the real thing, warts and all. I remember sitting in the balcony at Heinz hall in Pittsburgh and the acoustics were so bad I told my wife I'd rather be home listening to my stereo. First floor row H that's different. But I find the sound o...
I2s versus AES/EBU to connect an streamer/server to a DAC? I2S has no defined connectors in the standard so both end devices have to match. It was designed for point to point on circuit boards. USB is the highest speed most versatile standard interconnect at this time.
Need advice for upgrading my analog setup I can't speak to the arm and cart but the SOTA is a great TT, I've had mine for over 20 years. I did upgrade it to the magnetic bearing and new control board recently and it's better than ever .
Can a Bluesound Node's Streamer Be Bypassed and be used as an External Dac? The N130 Node's only digital audio inputs I know of are the HDMI E ARC and Toslink. USB, coax & optical are digital outputs. The USB is either local file inputs or output to a DAC.
Ultimate stereo nightmare 1. The first thing I do is turn off amp & preamp and swap the amp phono cables at either end. Now listen again. If the problem stays in the right speaker its not the preamp 2. grit your teeth and swap the speaker leads at the amp. Now the amp...
New to vinyl question If you had complained about any record but Hendrix I would dig into set-up issues like has been suggested. But Cream and Hendrix were often distorted before ever going onto tape. Also, LPs have dynamic range issues the lower you go and the cutting...
I have found out why new cables and tweaks actually work! The comment about perception is a good one. Some years ago there was an industrial engineering experiment to see what color on the walls of the cafeteria raised morale. They found that it wasn't the color as much as just making a change. Similarly...
Digital gain vs analog gain If it's analog a rule of thumb is no higher than 50%. Digital is messier if the attenuation is done digitally rather than in the output analog stage but the 0 db point mentioned throughout is also a good rule of thumb.
Thought I’d share: Nicely done and practical DAC review A very good review but it points out the elephant in the room... Speakers vs. Headphones. Headphones will reveal tiny things that speakers from 10 ft away will never or rarely reveal. How I translate his nuances into my system seems a far reach. ...
Flat Screen Television behind speakers It depends a bit if your speakers are front firing or rear transmitting like electrostatics. Putting regular speakers against the back wall causes reflections to the sides and off the ceiling and floor, not so much off the back wall which the TV ... |
