What makes a DAC so expensive?
I agree there is a bunch of hoop-la. There is some differences in sampling rates and such with Mac gen 2 dacs.  It had something to do with SACD sample rates, and the DACs ability to use ALL of it. Macs second gen Dac addresses that along with the...

Kt88 or 6550 tube for McIntosh MC275
Is that an early MC275, or the later model? I notice a much greater difference in valves in the early model. The preference to KT88 is because GREAT 6550s can break the bank.. 500-1000. a pair More than NOS KT88 GL6550 GE TungSol, Old stock. That i...

I own a few SMEs 3012s, 3009s. I did my own servicing. You can use aftermarket upgrades, NOS or used. Everything needed is around, I'm sure. They are worth every penny.. I love um!Regards
... Should I be concerned?
Again, the manual recommends all the way up.. If not you have to clean the pots every now and then. They are not the best pots, BUT that is a great amp. All the way up...Regards
