Strange ticking noise when amps were powered on from cold
Have you checked the voltage with just an old analog volt meter? Maybe it's something in your house that's causing the noise. Something weird. Can you move them to a different system or speakers or location?  The source? The preamp? Both at the s...

So just the way they are? Do they show a bypass arrow in the schematic, too? No goop or contact enhancer? That’s good to know.. I quit using fuses on all my SS amps. Breakers work and I’ve yet to loose an amp behind one. Two breakers, one in the a...
Strange ticking noise when amps were powered on from cold
I think your just fine. The location you had it before and the fact most of us don't turn off the main switch could be all it is. It was always there just the location may have masked the sound. I have a few class Ds and A/B preamps all the same w...

I know, spent big money on room treatments and such to only pull it all out later realizing the untreated room sounded better. Yes, it happens. I am talking about paying industry professionals to measure and treat the room. Pulled it all out! <...
Strange ticking noise when amps were powered on from cold
Is there another issue other than the cold start? It never did it before and now it does or what? They have always done it? They sound great?  You just noticed it? WHAT? Class Ds? 50 years old? You woke up in a cornfield and went back to th...

Master M. We can only put food in the bowl and ASK the starving man to eat. Most will eat, live and learn. Then there are those that say " I’ve never eaten that before" and push it away. They didn’t live, they didn’t learn and what they passed on...
Chinese Cables that sound good
Foxhole? What a weird word come to think of it. Terriers go to ground and dig out a fox. Fox hounds run foxes down and _______ them. So what part of a "FOXHOLE" is good? As for the target on their chest, I prefer my back, hit me if you can, I'm ou...
Tube Amp settings: Triode vs UL; 8 ohm vs. 4 ohm ?
They run KT88. EL84s and 6922. 87% efficient. They can run out of gas with a low efficiency speakers with yours at 90% they should play just fine. UL. If you can use 8 ohms valves will like it a lot better. Loose the bass duty it will be a one up,...

I suppose you think the earth is round? I believe in the hollow earth theory too. :-) Volcanos are overrated, you know that they really are, that's right middle earths sewage back up, why do you think they smell that way. YUK! Clean up tectonic pl...
Denefrips Pontus "burn in" period?
Yea give it every chance and THEN kill it.. I know nothing about that unit but some of the fancy rigs have teflon caps and silver clad wire/PTFE. All of that stuff can drive you nuts trying to get it Broken in.  I've never been real to up date o...

Looks like like a slow blow. I might have gotten the wrap a little tighter, if you look there is space between the center and the wrap. It dissipates the heat quicker and the filament is stabilized. I would have put a silver cap on one end and a c...
Denefrips Pontus "burn in" period?
Another thing is to cycle it off and on. Once a day is good. Let the caps discharge and then bring them back up. BTW you break in equipment, you burn in tubes and light bulbs and burn up equipment. But you break in gear, equipment, cables, shoes ...
Who loves Cotton ??
A friend got into using the center wire out of RG56 or 58 (tiny sucker). It cost him nothing and he tried all kinds or oversized tubes. Silk, and brown Texas cotton tube was my favorite. Silicone was nice and FREE at the time LOL. I never tried te...
110 voltage question
Use a Variac and it will last 1000 years probably. I use one on all my older Macs. 100-110vac they work perfect.. The pair I use them on is 1965-69 model MC225 and MX110z. Other than an ECC83 (12AX7) a couple of times. The original Telefunken valv...

Hay guys I’m just nosey. There was a guy that chimed in a while back and had some really good input. He/She was and had been tinkering with different fuse concoctions.. I find it amazing, the time and effort that goes into some of these things... ...
